Should I get the head Gas-flowed or Not?

Featured Replies

As already posted I have had to replace the engine on my car as the block was cracked. I was intending to put the gas-flowed head on the replacement engine but when I had it pressure tested that was found to be cracked too.

I was wondering if it was worth getting the replacement engine's head gas-flowed or not? or do I just look at uprating the injectors?

Opinions welcome?

Depends who's doing the work, there's a LOT of rubbish talked about 'polishing 'n' porting', rather less about optimising flow and velocity. I would say if you're taking it to a reputable head specialist then yes of course there are always decent gains to be had.

can you name a good company

I know individuals more than I know companies, most companies outsource headwork to individuals because they regard it as a 'black art'.

If I were in the market I'd phone a friend.

There is a man I know who would know who to use, PM me when you're actually ready to do it, it won't be cheap but you could probably reasonably expect a 10% improvement over stock flow performance.

Isn't there one of the MK5 heads that flows much better than the normal one?

Can't remember which though.

think the standard twin cam head off a 2.0 PD flows better than a worked single cam head? swapping is possible

Yip, that'll be it.  I think there's a thread on TDI Club about it.

If you uprate the injectors at your level of 'tune' (250hp plus?) and then use a standard head then the head will be the limiting factor as far as power goes.
