New Octavia Road Test Video

Excellent, is that true about the steering being 'lifeless' on the new model? I think the steering on my 01 Octy gives plenty of feedback etc. when compared to my previous cars, but then thats maybe due to the lower profile wheels on the RS model. I'll be delving into that aforementioned 2nd hand market in a couple of years, hopefully to pick up a new model VRS or 2.0TDi bargain...

The 'lifeless' steering is a factor of the electrically controlled power steering.

Considering my other car literally has the wheels on the end of the short steering column, I have no complaint about lifelessness in the Skoda. It takes a bit of getting used to but i've found it superb and an asset rather than a fault

When I test drove the Mk2 I found the steering to be very good indeed, it was one of the factors that influenced my decision to buy. After nearly a year of driving the Mk2 I have found no fault with the steering. It is light at low speed and tightens up as speed increases. I would not call it lifeless at all.

So its more of an evolution of the MK2 steering would you say? I suppose if a driver is used to the way skodas drive then it wouldn't be as much of a difference compared to someone who drives many different cars for reviewing purposes...
