More service info required

Featured Replies

Hi All

As stated in a previous post, I am looking into servicing my 2010 VRS CR.

I have been checking out filters and there are several available, Mann, Hengst, Crosland and Guttman. They all come in at different prices so what are the best ones to go for? As far as I am aware, Skoda OEM are made by Mann, is this correct? Are they all well made or is there a brand to stay away from?

Cheers

Dave

Anyone??

To the OP.

I've recently serviced my car, like ChrisRS I bought my stuff from EuroCarParts.

I used the crosland filters this time, but last time I used the MANN filters. I have also used the Bosch filters. I have not noticed any difference between them. Be careful on which fuel filter you choose as the information on the filter housing can be confusing.

Mine said 1KO127400J on the side so I ordered crosland part number 503440808. This was the wrong part.

Mine also said upon looking again - this time at the other side. UFI on the housing. This time I ordered crosland part number 503440928. This was the correct one.

The oil filter on ECP (crosland part number 501440288) is listed as the BKD engine, but this also fits the CEGA engine.

The oil I chose was Castrol Edge 5w30. ( I have a suction pump for changing the oil so no new sump plug / washer required )

The air filter and pollen filter were easy to identify.

Hope this helps

I generally get all my bits at TPS, OEM parts at trade prices and they can look everything up on the computer to ensure you get the correct parts.

For my wife's Merc I go to the local dealer, might be a few quid more than ECP but I'd rather have the knowledge of OEM parts being used.

I called Skoda with the VIN number and got all the part numbers. I will probably get them from Skoda this time and cross reference the part numbers for the next time. I plan on servicing every 5000 miles as I do on my astravan. I get a good discount on Vauxhall oil and parts so I can do an oil and filter change with genuine parts for less than £30.

I hope to be able to source genuine or quality parts for the VRS and keep the costs down by doing the servicing myself. We plan on keeping it 'til it falls to bits so its worth doing more frequent oil changes.

I have a spare M+H filter as I bought the wrong one the first time. Mine was a UFI. Don't forget to check carparts4less.co.uk as they are the sister company to Euro car parts. They are usually chesper too. Only downdide is its internet only so if you do order a wrong item like I did sometimes it is not worth returning it due to the postage charge.

Long life oil MUST be used due to the DPF, even if you plan on changing it regularly

I have 507 spec oil already. Will maybe pick up the service stuff at the dealers tomorrow.

Service done. Very straight forward. Need to get the gear oil ordered as dealer had none in stock.

Looks very easy to change gear oil.
