Moving up to a newish vRS

Featured Replies

Hi

Not been on here much.

I'm thinking of replacing the wife's Mk1 vRS with a new or nearly new Mk2, now that she is doing less miles.

Her 07 vRS LE has been a great wee car and has just been for a service @ 94k and still going strong.

I know there is no diesel option with the new model, most of the road test I have read appear to like it for what it is. But will never be a direct replacement for the Mk1 vRS.

Up here in the Highlands the higher octane fuel is not always available will this be a problem ? s

also hear the oil consumption can be an issue ?

Any other problems in general ?

I've been having a trawl on the net looking a what for sale at the moment, it looks like you can pick one up with very low or delivery mileage for approx £12k this has got to be a bargain.

your thoughts please.

cheers,

Ian......

the only real problem is oil consuption, on SOME models, not many.... I have done over 62k in 2 vRS's and mine have never used much oil, my current one uses a litre every 6,000 miles, which is fine :)

so basically ,I'd say the key is to talk to whoever was/is the previous owner of the car you buy ! if its not an oil user, it never will be... if it is, it could lead to alsorts of problems! delivery mileage, would be good, the CTHE engine in the newr ones is better for reliability :) a good one though wont go wrong :) I may well be keeping mine for 100k!

a standard car should run 95 octane without issue, you will loose a little economy and performance, but not much. they can sometimes misfire on 95 fuel, if so maybe an octane booster? definatly dont remap it, or put a tuning box on with 95 fuel, as it will throw a wobbly.....

edit; some people say they are noisy and have a hard ride, but mine has eibachs and a RARB, and i dont think its too hard ;) and if you are comming from a mark I it will be quieter than that anyway ;)

ian,

is this from John Clark Specialist Cars, Aberdeen/Dundee/Burrelton.

They are struggling to shift their growing number of EX & Current  Demonstrators,

so be sure to get your best deal,

Maybe take one with the Delivery Miles only, like under 50 miles, some of those others they have are looking cr4p.

They had some nice specced cars on order, if available to you.

I would advise that you do not go to a AC Dealership to buy one.

Go drive an Estate & a Hatch and see what you think,

(maybe try the Silver Estate at JC, its a good one. I would not buy it unless you get a great deal on it though.)

I would advise you consider the Estate, it does suit the roads in your area better, Suspension more suitable,  Well Just IMO.

??Where are you in Aberdeenshire?

PS, re Petrol.

You can run on 95 RON, but i would not.  If you are not going to be using mostly 95 ron, i would give the Twincharger a miss.

Have you got any Tesco Near, with Momentum 99, or the Shell for V Power Nitro,

even Sainsbury for their Super , min 97 ron.

http://petrolprices.com

You can get 400 miles from a tank when Venting, and 10 litre in a can gives you 480 miles or more  between needing 98 or 99 ron.

You can bung in the odd gallon or 2 of Regular 95 ron untill you fill up again.

If you do buy ,get the dealer to put an extended Warranty on it.

Thanks for the info so far.

I will need to get out there and have a few test drives. Some of the cars I've spotted are from J Clark. Not a fan of AC, but if they had what I was looking for at the right price I would take it. Victoria Garage ( Skoda service only) in Maud have looked after our vRS for the past four years and would continue to use them.

RE where we are in the Shire Nr Fisherford.

Ian....

I like the grey colour :)

Ian,

Good reputation at Maud.

I am from Macduff & Gamrie originally.

I am old, but as Young Boy Racers, your Saturday Night finished outside the Rothienorman Dances,

(long time ago.)

You are in the right place to enjoy a vRS.
