when does the turbo start to fade out on these standard?

Featured Replies

Reason I ask is because someone I know has had 3 of these an  said his turbo came in at just over 2k and started to fade out 4500rpm.. he said in the end he realised he was ragging it up the top top and not really motoring any quicker than if he changed earlier..

But when I told him mine comes in at just over 2k and when it hits 4800 you can feel it kick more all the way he said that's not normal and not a standard map?? :-s

Just had a right chew at a mk 5 gti golf.. couldn't get by, but was sat on his bumper lol

A decat will open the top end out a bit more but with it being a smaller turbo they tend not to hold their max boost too high. I haven't really kicked the tits out of mine yet as the clutch was slipping but clutch and flywheel just done and 3 hour drive to Glasgow so will have better feel but can't rag it too much with a new clutch and flywheel. Mine's just a stage 1 right now with the standard exhaust so although I have more power than standard the limits should still be around similar areas (should anyway and I say should lol)

Fred Elliot lmfao :-D

This def comes alive after 4800 definitely.. pulls from the bottom but surprising up top :-o

The car def pulls better now she can regulate her heat properly.. I read somewhere that these are clever in the sense that the ecu can detect the core temps getting to high and cuts boost??..?.. if that's true, that's clever as its the cars way of monitoring things and saving itself (or doing its best to anyway)

All modern engines do that, just about every tiny thing you can imagine that affects the engine is monitored. These have just the right amount to be great but on really new stuff the ECU sits in the way of you having fun- ESP is the perfect bloody example. Lets the car itself control boost and ignition to allow you to maintain grip- great idea in theory but the things always on. Even when you turn it off there's some part of it still there saying 'no, you aren't having any fun!".

Only problems with car's which are 'clever' are sensors (as you;ve found out), sensor goes bad, ECU reads incorrect info and engine timing goes to the dogs. Bloody clever though and if you ever read up on modern Bosch  GDi systems they are truly amazing in what the ECU does and how fast it does it

On a standard map it hit peak psi, at around 2.5k and should hold it all the way to blood, mapped will hit peak roughly the same then hold max boost then taper down gently, all depends on the map though ultimately, so for example, you hit say 19psi , hold it until about 5k then tall off dropping to say 14 psi until the limiter cuts in or you bottle it !!

So when are we going to meet Dave? Want to have  her plugged in now that most things are done to make sure she is good to go :-)

Think I'll run some logs on the drive up there today, get a better feel of where everything is. If I ruddy remember to start it that is lol

my vrs holds 0.9bar@6300rpm on 100 octane fuel and 1bar@6300rpm on LPG in 5th gear

The AUQ has VVT which kicks in around 4500rpm i think so if will continue motoring higher up the rev range

Sorry but it doesn't, the VVT is only used on cold start to open the valves to warm the cat up quicker along the SAI system

I can be tweaked with mapping to come on, it's strange though as at around 4 k something makes the engine note change, but apparently it ain't the VVT
