What is a coupe?

Featured Replies

The smart coupe doesn't really live up to my idea of what a coupe is.

Checked the dictionary which says "close carriage for two;half compartment at end of railway carriage" (old dictionary :o )

Seems that lots of so called coupes actually aren't (all those four seater BMW coupes etc) in fact it seems the smart is probably the only real coupe

The smart is coupe, no-one had better say its not. (please)

A coupe is the first one of two chicken coups! (COUP-A!)

Boom Boom!

Definition: A two-door sedan.

I'd always thought of a coupe as a sporting two-door with a separate boot, and probable either no back seats or teeny tiny ones.

whats a sedan LOL

{joke}

well coupe is essentially the same as sedan but with none - or limited rear seat capability.. Also the boot is supposed to carry less like a couple of shopping bags or golf bag max... :P

This reminds me of an incident when I was ordering suspension parts for my car when I used to have a renault megane.. I had the 5dr hatchback but it had "coupe" marks on the side.. anyway it wasn't anywhere close to the real 2dr coupe model, dunno why they called the 5dr version a coupe also.. anyway this resulted with wrong rear shocks at first as I got the ones for the coupe model, didn't know what the real difference was back then.. luckily I checked the part numbers and finally got the right shocks for the rear also.

This is a UK-based forum - can we not use daft American words please!;)

Steve

Oh? And what's the UK word for sedan? Because as far as I know everyone calls it sedan, I've been calling it sedan since I can remember..

It's probably coz they don't sell many in the UK - (sedans, that is), compared to rest of the world :D

Sedan auf English = Saloon.

Don't know why the german bit

Coupe = (Coo-p) a receipticle for holding Coffee or tea in Newcastle (see mug)

Mug = a badge snob who pays over the odds to avoid buying a Skoda.
