Drivers door seal

Featured Replies

I spotted this a few weeks ago but it never really bothered me until today:

As you can see the outer seal on the drivers door is coming away from the body of the car its self and there is a gap between the 2 rubbers. This hasn't bothered me until today as the main door seal is on the inside of the door however today when I opened the door water dripped onto the seat and that window was really steamed up (I don't know if this is the cause or not)

Obviously we have had abnormal weather conditions of late and this wont have helped the situation but the questions I have are: Has anyone else's car had this issue? Has this caused anyone any problems? Should I get it looked into? Would it be repairable under warranty (assuming that there is any warranty left (11 reg, second owner))?

Thanks in advance.

Get it down to your local dealer and query it under warranty buddy.

Looks identical to the seal on my fabia, haven't noticed water getting in though. Iv tried reshaping it but can't get it to sit flush.

Glad it's not just mine, well, you know, not glad.

And I haven't had any water in it before this morning either, however at half 3 this morning it was wet and windy and I wonder if it blew the wrong way and went in from the back?

@ Sparkly, that's what might end up happening to be honest, but I'm interested to know how others have dealt with it as well.

Obviously it is worth asking about a warranty claim,

but it is just what happens when some one leans on it and distorts it.

Bugs me when i see anyone leaning on doors, but more so ones with seals along the top.

(i sometimes catch myself doing it!!)

Not really a Manufacturing or material fault.

I was thinking it would have been with the opening and closing of the door, where the rubber pushes against the body but I suppose it's more likely to be someone bending it.

Just an update, I took it into the dealers today and showed the guy what was wrong (it's raining heavily so he could see where the water was getting through) and he took it into the workshop and adjusted the door so it now seals, Said that it was under warranty as log as it was letting water in (so if it just looks out of line it wouldn't be) and did it free of charge. Problem solved.

Good, & pleased it is fixed.

did you see him adjust the door, ?

sorry to be sceptical but from the door line that can be seen in the picture, just a wonder if he banged it with the palm of his hand or a rubber mallet.

The picture was from before the repair but no, I didn't see him do it. I'll get a picture tomorrow and post it, don't want to spend more time then I have to in this rain and wind. I was just happy that he got it "fixed" to be honest.

I took a picture of the door seal this afternoon to show the change:

Before:

After:

And the inside of the seal was dry this morning and this afternoon when I opened the door so all seams well.

Very neat.
