Stage 1 supporting mods/jobs?

Featured Replies

From the research I’ve done a basic stage 1 map on a healthy car should give in the region of 165-175bhp and around 270-280lb-ft torque realistically?

Supporting wise is there anything else I need to do?

I’m going to remove the EGR valve, inlet manifold, boost hoses and intercooler. Give everything a good clean/blast through and refit. Check for boost leaks I’ve read the standard hoses are a bit prone to leaking.

Will also be getting the cam belt and water pump done prior to the map just to be on the safe side.

Exhaust and air filter, standard are fine?
EGR delete, some say good some say don't bother?
Engine dog-bone bush/mount, worth doing to help prevent the engine rocking as much under acceleration?

Will all be fine on just a stage 1 map mate :)

You could have a mufflerectomy if you wanted a bit more noise.

Dog bone bush mount was worth it for me as it made the car mate responsive.

+1 for dogbone mount, more vibrations on idle but definately help with the response of the throttle

Which one have you got Tom, mines the 65 shore one.

if your higher mileage i would also advise removing the inlet manifold and de-coking it along with an EGR delete

Yeah I'm going to clean everything before going ahead. Are the EGR deletes worth it on the BLTs? I've read the anti-shudder valve is part of the unit so removing it can cause problems? For what it actually does, performance wise at least, it seems a pain to remove it if its working fine. Doing the 'elephant mod' seems easier to prevent the build up of crap in the inlet manifold?

EGR on BLT can throw the engine light on unless you get the specific BLT EGR delete pipe and then block off the EGR on the turbo side

i honestly couldn't tell you mate, just got the Diesel mount off the powerflex website :) not even much difference in vibrations if I'm honest just my keys rattle about on idle

Do the 'elephant' mod to keep your inlet clean, a catch can is favourite even if it's just a plastic bottle for now.

For the egr, just get it mapped out by whoever does the stage 1 map.
