Stage 2 vRS to Stage 3, Whats Needed?

Featured Replies

40mpg if you drive like miss daisy perhaps yeah.

can I ask you why you come on this forum?

Cause all you do is slate the cars that this forum is made for.

Because i like it and it is the best forum i've ever used

I haven't slated anything i just think the money would be best spent to exchange to a better / quicker car out of the box. (My opinion)

The OP is looking at spending over 100% of the car's value on it, i think that requires carefull consideration and it doesn't hurt to look at other options does it?

Doesn't mean im ****ing on the parade its just an opinion. Which everyone is allowed to have :)

The options are:

Upgrade the vRS - pros, known quantity, cheapest to do. Cons, even with a LSD still going to have handling problems

Swap the engine into a Lupo/Arosa - pros, going to be significantly lighter,  cheap(ish) to do. Cons, handling problems as above, cheapest running costs (prob get £30 road tax and more to gallon as lighter)

Buy 335D - pros, better handling, able to put the power down quicker Cons, unknown quantity (could end up with a lemon), more expensive, not going to be that much faster in a straight line as the 335D is lardy, highest running costs

Absolute top of the list would be a Quafe or Peloquin ATB differential, £1k fitted but the car will be practically much faster.

A good big valve head, cam and injectors will get you to 280 BHP with a more agressive map to suit, £2k.

For 300+ you'll need the dustbin lid turbo.

Why are the options always spend a fortune on the car or buy a BMW?

There are other cars out there people may want to consider.

And if it's up around 200bhp all it really needs is a LSD in my opinion anyway.

May I politely ask if anyone haas riven a standard 335d, let alone a tuned one?

I ask as a friend has a 400bhp Audi S2, a 600 bhp Audi S4 and a 335d, standard. To be fair, the S4 is always going to be quicker, but real-world? The 335d isn't embarrased, really

I get the point BigJase is making, I felt the same when I had the money to upgrade my existing car, or change altogether. That's why I sold my TVR and scratched the itch of a ur Quattro with 46k and a 10k RS500. No, not the same as this case, but it is, after all, a personal choice.

An LSD is something I'd look into personally given the spec, no point going for more power if the car can't use it!

Anything with a tuned V10 tdi, 1000 ft/lbs anyone?

My fantasy conversion for the Fabia is a tuned version of the V10 in the back driving the rear wheels like the V6 Clio. I think the VW group wasted the V10 derv, could have done so much more with it.

I'd say the V8 derv thats in the Range Rover is light for a big derv and has a lot of potential for upgrades. I think the emission laws have curbed development of higher performing variants, likewise with the VW V10.

Aren't BMW planning a 40D for the european 5 series?

Only thing I don't like about the older 335D is the weight, they are heavy and I know that there have been issues with the turbos for some owners. I think the new 4 series is considerably lighter?
