Boost & intercooler pipes

Featured Replies

So it appears asking a question has given me another question, have i messed up and got the wrong hoses?

i've bought an egr delete kit that is 57mm and a top boost pipe from allard with silicone bends that is also 57mm. however, the intercooler pipework that came with my forge fmic has 53mm bends (which i must have measured wrong) and 48mm hard piping.

will this all fit together? or have i messed something up somewhere?

I've replied to your PM but I see what you mean now!

You all you need really is a reducer from the allard too boost pipe to where it connects to the Forge kit?

What's the ID of the silicone on the forge kit?

now im really confused lol. will the egr delete fit the top boost pipe?

the chap I bought it off made his own pipework. its from sfs hoses. I think im going to replace it all anyway so could I buy it to match the boost hose?

If your boost pipe is 57mm and your EGR delete is 57mm then they will fit together fine :)

If you keep your boost hoses 51mm or 57mm then you should be fine - try ASH hoses I got all mine from there.

ok spot on. i'll order a new set of 57mm boost hoses for the intercooler then cheers. any idea on what size hardpipes? would i want 51mm?

If your ordering 57mm ID silicone then you'll want 57mm hard pipes. I've got 57mm on mine there plenty of room but it does reduce to 51mm at the turbo.

ok so if I went 51mm silicone, id need a 57-51mm reducer, and 48mm hardpipe? or 51mm hardpipe? ideally id like to keep and reuse the intercooler pipes so is there anyway to make it fit?

Yes you'll need a silicone reducer to go from 57mm - 51mm.

If you want to use 51mm outer pipe then you will need to order 51mm Inner Diameter silicone.

You may well find a reducer that does 57mm - 48mm that way you can still use your pipe work from the forge FMIC.

My inter cooler piper work goes like this

EGR couple

64-57mm reducer

57mm 45* hard pipe

57mm 45* silicone

57mm 90* hard pipe

57mm straight silicone joiner

57mm 45* hard pipe

57-63mm reducer as the intercooler has 63mm take offs.

Now from intercooler to turbo it goes....

63-57mm reducer

57mm 90* hard pipe

57mm straight silicone

57mm straight hard pipe

57mm straight silicone

57mm straight hard pipe

57mm 90* silicone

57mm straight hard pipe

57-51mm 90* silicone

Turbo coupler which is 51mm.

That is the pipe off my turbo, that straight alloy is technically what runs along side the sump once it's on the car.

Im gonna fmic mine soon I think. Bloody be there forever kitting it all up and working out what ill need lol

lol, im not gonna pretend I know what im on about im so confused. however, I think after 2 days and your help im nearly there!

I need some way of joining my egr delete (54mm outside diameter) to my 90° bend (57mm inside diameter) as when you tighten the jubilee clip the hose creases slight. is that right?

next, I need a way of joining my 60° degree silicone bend (57mm inside diameter) to my intercooler pipe which has an inside diameter of 53mm.

am I as close to finally finishing this as I think? lol

does anybody know what this is? and how it connects to other pipes?

my silicone hose connects to the thin part but I can't work out how the other bit connects. this bit connects to another one of these which comes out the bottom of my top turbo boost pipe.

hope this makes sense.

From what I can understand - looks like you need to remove the other one of those in your top boost pipe then put that one in and then connect up your silicone to the one pictured.

ok but do you know what its called? as the bigger end is too big for the intercooler pipe so need to order a smaller one. god this pipework stuff is a ball ache!

It's a coupler. Aren't you replacing all of the boost pipes or using the allard top pipe?

  • Author

Thought that but cant seem to find one anywhere! I think I just need a smaller one. im using an allard boost pipe which ive just bought, and im hoping to use the intercooler pipes that ive got with the fmic. so if I can find one that goes 57mm to 51mm im on to a winner.

does it matter if I miss out the coupler? as the top intercooler pipe is a good fit in the turbo silicone bend?

No miss the coupler :) I take it the ones that fit together well - one is silicone and the other is a hard pipe?

Is it a silicone straight piece you need that goes from 57mm - 51mm?

  • Author

no, the ones that fit together are both silicone, its goes:

90° silicone bend 57mm

straight silicone pipe inside the above

straight hardpipe 48mm inside the above.

ideally I want a 57mm-51mm hard piece.

am I still making sense?

  • Author

you my friend deserve a medal. ive ordered 2 bits so it will run:

90° silicone bend 57mm

straight pipe 57mm inside the above

straight silicone reducer 57mm - 51mm

straight hardpipe 48mm inside the above.

am I right in thinking that'll all fit now?

You may well get it to clamp down on 48mm you'll have to try it. Failing that you could pack the hard pipe out slightly with some electrical tape or something so long as it's mega tight.

Use the genuine mikalor clamps - they're a bit dearer but well worth it! I snapped 2 clamps but they were cheaper versions. Got mikalors now and all it good.

  • Author

it should fit, the hardpipe was in a 53mm id hose when I got it. not sure what clamps ive got tbh, think there from sfs but ill look at changing them thanks. cheers for all the help again!

Ahh hopefully it will all fit then!

What cooler are you fitting after all?

Well ive just picked up my evo intercooler. It looks a right beast :D

Soooo dannnnn... fancy going through that all again :P

Joking lol. One question I do have is. Where is the best place to buy the vag clip to silicone hose joiners. Don't know the name. Short metal tube that clips onto vag clips then adapts to let you add silicone hose on other end lol
