changing radiator any tips!

Featured Replies

So thursday im going to be changing the radiator on the vrs as its developed a drinking habit lately. I know I need to remove the bumper just wondered if there were any other handy hints as it all looks abit compact in the engine bay and the biggest job I've done on the furby so far is a service.

I pinched Heath's piccy for this (not a vRS), but it looks like an utter nightmare/railway accident to me, not sure what level of DIY skills you'd need to reassemble it.  Good Luck.

Yup bumper off

Crash bar off

Aircon rad off

Then finally radiator out which will have fans attatched to it aswell.

Proper mare of a job!

A good 3-4hour event if you have not done it befoe

I changed mine with an ali 1 not a nice job m8 complete front end off

Looks like you'll need a good stock of sticking plasters for the loss of skin removal encountered..LOL

Just full hand bandages would have done.

What a horrible job, a lot more difficult that when I did the rad on my 106 years ago.

Try renewing the radiator on the old mini, a total nightmare..

How difficult the job is depends on what level skills you have.

To be honest the job doesn't look half bad.

Bumper removed, crash bar removed.. air con rad.. and the rad is there.

Alot easier then a Rad on a Scania 124L 420.

Orba Renault magnum 500, unless your feeling strong and take a 5 foot tall rad/intercooler combo in one ;) while holding the air con rad forward and a 'boy' holds the fan cowling back ......

Just changed mine as the core had gone ! Nightmare job - about 4 hours- and the aircon rad pipes had seized so they needed to be cut - now I need a new aircon rad -

all put back together until the sun comes out then the aircon will get sorted.
