Idiots guide to satnav upgrade?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, so my 2009 VRS has the Bolereo unit, I've read that I can install the columbus satnav unit?

Please could someone clarify?

1. Does it just plug into same loom?

2. Will it need coding? Or activating?

3. Do I need to install antenna? Is this straight forward?

4. Are Bolereos selling for much?

5. Is it worth it or just get a tom tom?

Did similar on my vectra C, but it was always slightly out by 50-100yards, which was a pain nearing the destination.

Thanks for any help,

Mike

I put a columbus into the car to replace my bolero.

Takes about 10 mins to swap them over, just plug and play, needs new dash trim as they are a different shape but this is available from the dealer.

Does not need coding to work, but if you want to have the display on your maxidot then yes you need someone with vcds to tick the box to say it has nav.

Mine has an puck type external antenna, just sits under the dash, works fine hidden in there - these are a few quid from ebay.

Bolero's do sell, but not for much.  I'm holding on to mine - it'll get refitted when the car goes and i'll then sell the columbus for (i expect) pretty much the same as what i paid for it.

Tom tom/garmin is also a good option but the factory fit/integration is nicer.   I had a top of the line garmin in the last car, wired in permanently in the dash top box - looked factory, no trailing wires and it booted up/shut down with the ignition.   I had no issues with that setup but i prefer the integrated factory unit.

Thanks Rob,

So the Antenna really works fine under dash? That's cool, never worked right like this on my vectra and ended up fitting roof antenna!

What's the right sort of price for a columbus unit?

Really helpful info that though, thankyou

Mike

Good condition used Columbus should be 350+ on Ebay. There might be cheaper st0len ones.

Make sure you get the security code.

yep, as above, 350ish seems to be going rate.
