Vrs road noise - gearbox?!

Featured Replies

Just bought an 06 VRS with 80k miles but full skoda service (10 stamps in the book). Got it from a used car dealer. Since we got it 2wks ago have discovered the battery was knackered - had that replaced & the garage are gonna reimburse me cos the warranty won't cover it. Have also had the front wheel bearings replaced as one was def worn, but my mechanic is worried that the noise is still there which leaves either tyres or gearbox?!!! I'm hoping its tyres, does anyone know how I wld tell if it is the gearbox? The noise is like a low constant drone once you get above 20mph (hence thinking it was wheel bearings..., Even sounds similar to a mild blowing exhaust noise). The car drives fine otherwise, just hoping I haven't been taken for a ride by the garage that sold it...? :( (I know I should go straight back to them but its a 150 mile round trip which i can only do on a saturday so trying to avoid that!)

Put the back wheels on the front and the front wheels on the back and see if it changes.

Probly the other wheel bearing knackered also.
