Extended warrant cost

Featured Replies

Has anyone opted for the extended warranty on there car once the 3yrs/60,000 miles warranty is up

As my local dealer is quoting me 500-600 for 12 months.

So sounds very expensive to me so may go to external warranty suppliers

Does the above price sound about right or are people being quoted other prices.

As It looks like I'm going to hit 60,000 before the three year mark.

Todays telegraph money section has an item about warranty direct, ex merc dealer indicated he had cover, probs sorted rapidly by dealer network, necessary to pay for repair but rapid reimbursement by w d , less excess of £25

telegraph.co.uk/warranty , comes in at around 450 - 500 pa or 3 yrs around 1000

Seems a lot by comparison with the £640 two-year add on to the three year warranty on a new Yeti.

There were a couple of extremely lengthy and comprehensive posts on here in recent weeks which will be in the search Box, I'm sure.

For me the upshot was I wanted to cover my Yeti (due primarily to the DSG) after the 3 yr warranty expires and I joined the CSMA and took out their Car Care Plan Warranty for £144 a year.  As far I could see (and I did make some enquiries to check I was doing as well as I can) it's as good (or bad) as the aftermarket Car Care Plan that Skoda dealers offer to those NOT buying at the time of buying the car from new. I've paid for it and it commences automatically when it's three yrs old.  By joining the CSMA you get Insurance Legal Expenses cover which normally cost more than the £19 annual membership so it costs you nothing to be a member (unless you're one of those who refuses to have Legal Expenses Cover at any cost....in which case it's £19 membership and you don't get the Legal Expenses Cover :) )

Almost everyone finds themselves eligible if they dig deep enough into the list of qualifying occupations...or retired occupations.... or your Aunt fanny knew someone who knew someone else who used to live next door to someone with a qualifying occupation.  If you get my drift.
