We have decided to get rid of our mk1 superb & buy something smaller like a used Octy. We already have a Citygo as a runner-round Road tax & mpg are important features. Any suggestions for make & model we should look at.

What is the budget, petrol or diesel,  how many miles per year does it need to cover?

 

First Suggestion is a Dacia Duster,

maybe not even a new one, if the nearly new prices are low enough already.
