ASR (and ABS)

Featured Replies

My ASR button seems to do nothing. Should it?

Also does having ASR mean I have ABS?

Yes?

Really though? Definitely? Because I tested it and it's not working.

Any ideas on what the problem might be please?

Cheers!

Thanks for any help you can offer!

They all have ABS as far as I know. Mine is only a MPI Classic and it has it.

ASR (anti-slip regulation) is just a basic form of traction control. What makes you think it's not working?

I honked the brakes on to check ABS and it skidded. And it wheel spins with the very slightest amount of acceleration.

Get it scanned, check live data (or the garage will)

Any lights on the dash?

go down a country lane. pop your left wheel in the mud. begin to accelerate til your wheel begins to slip. the asr light will flash if it's working!

When you turn the ignition on the amber ABS and ASR lights will illuminate and then go out.  If you don't see these lights illuminate, I would expect that there's a fault in the system and the warning lights have been blanked out.

Presumably I need to find/buy/borrow a device for this?

I have it booked in for service and some other bits on 22nd so will see if they can look!

sounds like an abs sensor but don't hold me to that as u ain't got any light on

Ok cheers mate! Appreciate your input. Sounds expensive!

no traction control or abs normally leads to a abs sensor get it plugged in and it will direct u straight at the issue

Thanks - Cool, will speak to dealer then; they're going to love me.

Have you checked the ABS/TCS fuse in the fusebox on the end of the dashboard? Haynes manual says it's fuse number 25 and 5amp for ABS/TCS or 10 amp for ABS/ESP.

Erm, Shall I say 'yes' because it'll be too embarrassing to admit the truth?

Honestly, I haven't; I will though!

Thanks for the suggestion. I should have done that!

Always best to start with the simple stuff :)

Just come back inside and seen your diagram. Oops. Still at least the rest of the fuses are fine too!

Ah, crap :(  Oh well, was worth checking anyway.

By the way, did you pull the ABS fuse out and check that the metal bit inside isn't melted? You can't tell just by looking at the fuses in situ.

I pulled them all out; one by one! ;-|

Ah, OK :)

Update! It was the 40 amp fuse on the battery - I found a thread on here about it, checked and sure enough. Busted. So popped down to VW at 1245 (Skoda parts closed 1230!) and got given a 30A as a quick fix free of charge. Only weird thing is the ABS/ASR bulbs still don't come on. I've got a theory that someone had blanked or removed the ASR/ABS lights - is that possible? Thanks to everyone for their help.

Glad you got it working :)

The warning lights are LEDs which are soldered on. If someone has blanked them I suppose the only way to find out would be to dismantle the instrument cluster.
