Who said you couldn't polish a turd?

A break in the rain, wind and all round crappy weather finally let me wash the car after having it for 4 weeks and he cleaned up better than I thought

Superb work. Mine hasn't had a wash or vac in 6 months. :(

Looks ace.

Nice to hear of someone else calling a car "he"

6 months? Would have driven me mad by then! lol. 2 days after I got it I had the interior professionally valetted to get rid of most of the years of grime, I gave it another going over inside after that as well (I have more time than a valetter lol). This was the first outside clean though- just washed down- no actual polishing and no wax. I just needed to see what I was up against so I can get on repairing the bodywork. Now it's clean though his new badge can go on (yeah, there's more than 1 Darth Nerd)

Here's the mk1 Nerd ;)

I took Friday to get some buffing done too, sadly it was the wife's car so it could go on eBay:

Octavia's still filthy

You don't see many Grandis' about, bloody good car as well

Yeah,

Great car if you have shares in a BP or Esso and get fuel for free. No offence, my old man had the 2.4 in his space wagon 2002 plate, it was shocking on fuel! Don't get me wrong great car, bad on fuel.

It's a shame because the bigger engine is what makes them a nice smooth drive

I'd rather walk than drive a diesel so it was a no-brainer for me. Smooth, fast, quiet and it sounds sweet when you rev it too

It was 2k cheaper than a diesel when we bought it, so over 4 years I rekon it's cost about the same as the oil-burner AND been much nicer to drive for the entire time :sun:

If nobody buys the Grandis we'll just keep enjoying it. She fancies a Hyundai Coupe and we'll probably get the 2.7

Moaning about the Grandis being heavy on fuel but want a 2.7l v6? lol. Can't beat a v for fun. I miss my old Lumina SS I had out in Dubai, 5.7l's of awesome

No complaints from me on fuel usage, the smile you get every time you drive makes it worthwhile. It's a 1.8 tonne car so even the diesel isn't cheap to feed.

The 2.7 Hyundai has almost the same economy / tax / performance as the 2.0, the 2.7 is slightly cheaper to buy and has a 6-speed manual. The V6 makes great noises too

They do a 1.6 litre option, 0-60 in twelve seconds...

I'd only drive V8s if I had my way. I've had a couple of holidays in Aus and that V8 burble just makes me happy

Personally I'm very happy with the 20v Turbo in the Octy, although it's too quiet. My push bikes cost more than my car, so it's just a case of priorities for me

INduction, decat and straight through exhaust and you'll get plenty noise lol

Nothing beats a the v8 noise except maybe a v10 or a v12 or a v16...any V makes me happy

I won't go that far as it'll be the wife's car, but a Pipercross or K&N panel filter will go in, when it needs pipes it'll be up to Charlie in ProSpeed to make it extra-fruity

Gotta sell the Grandis first of course. Someone is bound to buy it, I did!

There's a place upi here called AAS- funnily enough they're specialists in v8 exhausts but they can tune an exhaust to sound just about how ever you like. Class workshop they have, always have big American stuff in and also their own project Rat Rods...epically cool

Took me a month to give mine the first wash mainly because I live 10 floors up but also my misses doesn't seem to understand that cleaning a car does takes all day lol

Octavia is actually a female name.  So all Octavia's are actually a she.  Weirdly it's an Italian name derived from Latin.  In latin it means 'Eighth born'.

Used to work at sea - if it's on water it's a she, if it's on land it's a he - always will be in my books. Mine only says VRS on the back, no Octavia, maybe it's fate? Lol

And thank you for the history of the word Octavia - I shall sleep much better now ;-)

Did you get that car from Dubbers in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield?  It looks very much like the 02 reg one with no Octavia badge that they had in when I bought my old 04 plate one.

Nah but the lad I bought it off did. I've only had it 4 weeks or so, he bought it and they ended up putting a new engine in for him because the original threw a valve. So got 132k on the shell and 72k on the engine complete with new timing belt so runs lovely, that's why I picked it up 1500

I do like their front plate though- you can't really see it in the pic, it has a slight lip on the bottom it- looks nice. Hope I can find a similar shape when I pop some new plates on

Thought I recognised it!  You got a good buy there then, they had it up at £1800 originally.  Fair play to them sticking a new engine in too.

They must have changed their number plate style since my old one then, mine was just a fairly normal one.  No longer my car so I've hidden the reg.

I even have the receipt for what the lad paid and what they took for his old car lol. Got it all in writing from them on the engine change and that stuff (I can be anal with paperwork lol). For 1500 quid I'm over the moon with it. THrown a couple of ton at it so far with stage 1 map and smf conversion so I can have some fun while I'm building it up, Surprisingly fun car to drive for it's size- I wanted something the polar opposite of the DS3 so got the VRS

You can see the plate a bit better on this one- the black at the bottom is curved overhang- never actually seen a plate like it- fits with the shape of the car nicely

Is it a separate piece fitted behind the number plate?  It looks like the white bit of the number plate says Polar something.
