Burnin' Rubber --- Bad Brakes

Featured Replies

Sorry guys, just a fancy title to get you to look.

My Octa vRS has done about 600miles now and I have started noticing a burned rubber smell comming from the back end.

I can think of 2 possibilities, something is rubbing against the left rear tyre or the rubber supports for the Exhaust (I assume it has some) are getting a bit too hot. :x

On another note my brakes are starting to squeak really badly. very embarassing. The garage have said I might have glazed brakes, but I don't think this should be such a big problem for a car thats done so little milage.

Any ideas or comments would be great :)

Yep ,

I've got the same thing , burning rubber smell from nearside rear . I've done 2000 miles now and had it right from the start , haven't got a clue what it is :!: , I know thats no help at all , but at least you're not on your own :)

Burning rubber smell.. Yip I get it also and I'm on 35,000 miles get it after a spirited run

Don't think its just an rs thing, i gave my occy a "good run" with speeds topping 120MPH on sunday (no one was more surprised than me), and noticed the same thing a funny rubbery like burning smell definately from the rear end. But unlike you rs owners (sorry vRS owners) i stopped and checked to see what it was! (I thought it was the sensible thing to do  )

I found a label or rather the remains of one on the topside of my exhaust rear box was smoking nicely!

label was removed and smell went away after about 200 miles and didnt come back for rest of journey.

can't say if it was there at the start or had just blown its way up there but i

had a similar thing on my 206cc but that smell was put down to the cat (as per garage) and would appear after a spirited drive as someone put it.

and before anyone says anything i wasnt in england doing these speed's  !

If it was delcac asking, I would have advised checking the rear for a rubber chicken stuffed up the exhaust. But a burning label sounds plausible.

Took the Car to the Garage today, they can't see anything wrong. Nothing touching the Tyres etc. :driving:

I'd go along with Dean (g7pkf) that its something to do with the exhaust. The rear silencer is very near the passenger side tyre, I wonder if its spray and gunk comming off the tyre and onto the Silencer box :?

Dean, I tried to check myself but with mudflaps, lowered body and wheels that nearly fill the arches, its a real b"&&er to feel or see anything under Octa without ramps or a pit. Could have taken the wheel off I suppose, sounds far to technical though. :P
