Under bonnet wiring loom inspection/ replacement

Featured Replies

Has anybody heard of this; the wiring loom under the bonnet can possibly rub  and cause the car to go into  limp mode and the glow plug warning light to flash. Skoda are aware of this and will repair or replace this fault free of charge but it is NOT considered worthy of a recall!

Are you sure there is not a Recall,  but one of the usual Skoda/VAG ones where they prefer not to tell to many people?

Not bother getting in touch with Registered Keepers using their Computer or the information they can get from the DVLA via VOSA,

Maybe this is a different re-call

Late last year (following continuing glowplug light flashing & going into limp mode) my dealer (under warranty) replaced the wiring loom that you refer to on my SE+ CR90 TDI.

This did not do the trick!  - and on one occasion the car went into limp mode three times in 2 hours! A further visit to dealers then suggested that the turbo was giving problems. A third turbo was fitted to the car which was 18 months old at the time. Although the previous 1.4 TDI pd was faultless in the two years I had it - I am of the opinion that the 1.6 TDI (with DPF) is no longer a town car - it cannot get to a full operating temperature in the cold weather - therefore the system is unable to function reliably in its current guise.

Enough was enough - so changed to a 1.2 TSI se.

This has proved a good move, with the 1.2 TSI giving surprisingly good performance. Skoda are not alone with this problem, as all manufacturers it would seem have ongoing problems with their diesel variants.

I have had my loom replaced under warranty, because of the same fault as you.

Mine is going in next Friday for this work but there is no effort being made to contact owners, you only find out if you book a service at a Skoda dealer or have Skoda Assist out to you if your vehicle breaks down!! Hardly a satisfactory state of affairs IMHO.

I rang to book mine in for its first service last week (going in Monday), the guy on the phone asked me to hold on whilst he checked to see if my car was affected by a 'wiring recall under the bonnet'. It wasn't he stated so it could just come in for the normal amount of time allocated to a first service (a while-you-wait job). My car is a 2013 vRS hatch.

I think that this wiring fault only applies to diesel models; but I am sure that if I am incorrect, we will soon know.

Not true, mine is the TSI model and mine was in for a recall on Wednesday just gone.

Mine went in last week for same recall, 1.2 TSI.

I had a breakdown just over a month ago. The RAC Skoda Assist chap found the wiring loom just below the ECU on the right was chafing on a bracket and was worn through a bit causing a short circuit and therefore going into the limp mode with relevant warning lights. Car was repaired under warranty and a new aluminium accelerator pedal fitted as well. Full description of fault was not communicated to me and I didn't get a written report as I was told it was a warranty issue.

Mine is going in tomorrow for this issue and its first service.. I will report what happens.

After the service, I was told ( in the report) that the wiring had been insulated and reclipped. They also said that this would not have caused the initial fault that I experienced, and also that they had no idea what had caused this initial problem. Hardly the thing to fill you full of confidence, is it?

when I was retrofitting cruise I noticed the loom near the plug was very close to the the car body

when I refitted the ECU back I added extra tape and padding to that area

Bump.
