New Yeti arriving soon - best way to sell old (very old!) car?

Featured Replies

Nice new Yeti arrives soon (week 7) - time to be thinking of selling the old one, a 2001 Golf.

Low mileage, had it since new, reasonable condition, so no reason why it shouldn't sell at the right price.  A few years ago I'd have just put an ad in the local paper, but I doubt that's very effective these days.  Anybody any experience of eBay (traditional auctions or eBay classified ads)?  Or any other method of selling more 'mature' cars?

Anyone suggest the best way of selling?

Ad in the local paper or autotrader.

Sold my vRS through free advertising on Gumtree after no luck with local paper. Next step was Autotrader.

People do tend to prefer buying more expensive vehicles from dealers etc for piece of mind.

Without being rude, your "mature " vehicle should sell well, with low mileage and one owner. Do some research on similar vehicles, price it accordingly and shouldn't be a problem.

Hope this helps.

I sold a 12 year old jeep grand Cherokee on gumtree within a week and its free.

I suggest Autotrader.....I sold a 12 year old SAAB this way and the buyer travelled 70 miles to buy it.

People knock ebay, but if you stick to a classified ad rather than an auction, it is so cheap for 30 days (about £15). So much more exposure, especially when potential buyers do a Google search for a particular model, ebay will always be of the listings. And you get 12 free photos!

I have sold many vehicles on there  - a 1 year old £40k VW camper, 1 year old £15k Yeti, 7 year old Mini Cooper S "Works" for £8k, 10 year old Suzuki Ignis for £2k and 6 year old Suzuki van for £3k to name a few. Always sold within a week, and buyers traveled from as far afield as Scotland, Norfolk, Surrey and Bognor Regis (we live in Bedfordshire).

Expect to haggle a 10% reduction as most buyers will expect this, and price your car realistically. Make sure plenty of photos, especially of the interior - and make sure no tatty dog eared and dirty floor over mats on view (one of my pet hates).

Good luck!

Highly recommend advertising it on here and other forums. Less divs to deal with than you'll get from autotrader.
