150? miles ... a lot ?

Hi .. been looking for a mk1 rs .. have found one with a few problems .. blowing exhaust .. so they say .. and rear lock issues (common fault so they say) car done 150k .. can I ask is this a lot for type of engine ...

They're going so cheap these days.

Get a good one or don't get one. 

Honestly, ask LuckyvRS20vT what he reckons you should do, he bought one with a few problems that turned into a lot.

They need looked after their whole life, particularly with big miles.

The 1.8t is well fit for 200k miles + but not if it has an owner that couldn't be bothered to fix a blowing exhaust or dodgey locks.

 

Genuinely good ones are going for £1500 with around 100k miles.

Yeah when I got mine there were a few obvious issues but in my eyes at the time minor ones as I am mechanically minded and handy with a socket set, however....

 

These hid bigger issues, for example.. 4 days after I had it the car started smoking at idle.. it got worse and stunk of oil. End result she needed a new turbo.. 

In the first 3 weeks of owning the car it stung me for around 800 quid (some of this was upgrade items like 3' downpipe ect ect) but I started to think of throwing in a match!!

 

It seems that when the police owned it they kept on top of maintenance ect but the next 2 nuggets that had it tried to drive it into the ground!!!

 

It's just now where I have realised the car is bloody brilliant an  I love it but it's cost me a lot to get it this far when to be honest I think a lot of folk would have broke it for bits

 

These, as said,, are awesome when maintained but bastar ds when neglected!

But I didn't do to bad when you consider I straight swapped it for a saab 95 estate diesel that was averaging only 34mpg and had no less than 205,000 miles on it 

So in the end...... I WIN!! :-D

Depends how its been treated and serviced is the honest answer. They are cheap cars now so Id shop around.
