Octavia MK2 1.8TSI 2008 Pre FL Headlight Replacement

Hi, all

have to replace N/S halogen headlight unit due to an altercation with a gate post.

Has any one used aftermarket units as opposed to genuine ones,I ask because I`ve read that aftermarket ones are made from inferior plastics and the lens seals leak.

I`ve found a site that breaks down the VAG part numbers into 3 digit sets,I was trying to find out if the parts I can find on Ebay and other sites that give a different part number than the one on my broken unit are compatible.

It`s the last 3 digits that are different i.e.

My P/N is 1Z2941015A

Found P/Ns 1Z2941017M or 1Z2941017D

Apparently the last 3 digits refer to the real part number and revision/superseded part and which side of the car they fit.

My question is can I be sure that a revised part will fit my car as it`s still not clear from the part numbers I`ve found.
