New Foam & G3 Clay Mitt

Featured Replies

What with the weather being ok for the moment, it was time to try a new Foam to the market (Obsession Wax Snow Foam) and the recent G3 Clay Mitt (most times you have to ask at Halfords for them to go fetch it for you).

The test mule was the one for these, this car can lead a VERY hard life, its been cleaned (alot of times now) with paper towels (you know, the green ones you find in toilets) hit with ipads and goes into the odd hedge.

So perfect for this.

Tools etc used:

Kranzle k7

3 Buckets (shampoo & rinse have gamma seals as I am a big girl)

Various brushes from Tim at Envy Valeting

Demon Shine APC (meh)

Obsession Wax Snow Foam

Envy Valeting Shampoo

ArtDeShine Clay Cloth

G3 Clay Mitt

Various Drying Towels

Dog Dryer

My Own Wax by Obsession Wax

ArtDeShine wax applicator

Buffing cloths from Envy Valeting

So wheels and tyres cleaned with the Demon Shine APC

Rinsed

Foamed

A very thick foam and a very low dilution ratio, clung well and gave me time to do usual.

After around 10 mins

Did I mention thick foam?

Left is G3, Right is ArtDeShine

You can see the differences in size, what you can't see is the difference in feel. Whilst the mitt is of course, cushioned, the actual MF used is higher quality in the ArtDeShine.

Onto the "clay" side, again you can see the size difference, but what you can't see is that the G3 just has less of the "clay" product, meaning you can actually see the MF thru it. So less in size and quantity.

So used with the Envy Valeting shampoo as the lube, did the bonnet (their is a reason for this, more to be said soon).

Half and half.

The bonnet (the whole car) is really bad (which makes it an ideal test mule) and needed 4 passes with the ArtDeShine to remove all of the crud, leaving a silky smooth finish.

The G3 needed over 15 passes and still hadn't removed all of the crud. Thus took longer to do.

Rinsed with open hose, dried and checked.

Yup, both sides marred. (nice soft Honda paint for you) This means you will need to follow with a polish. (however, cunning plan ahead)

And since a trial is being done on the mule, this wasnt done, just followed with my own wax.

My thoughts:

The ArtDeShine removed more, quicker than the G3, time is money. However, this mitt is aimed for the mass market, and as such is perfect for it.

This is more for the owner who clays once, twice a year and not really for those who do it for a living.

If you can afford it, get the ArtDeShine, if you can't, get the G3 and enjoy.

(for those local, feel free to come to mine for a play, or will be used at the meet).

Got a few more cars to do with it (all non-paying as I don't test on those cars) but at moment, the ArtDeShine wins for me.

Any questions?

Matthew

The cost of the ArtDeShine cloth is?

I think its £40.00, Chris.

Regards

Mike.

Holy........ :giggle:

I'll stick with my G3 cloth then

It's roughly 3 x times the size, better quality (as you can see in the pics, more "clay" on the ADS cloth), so for me it's worth the cash.

But then that's why it's such a competitive market.

Which just makes it better for all of us.

I don't clay very often..so the G3 is perfect for me

I have quite a bit of BH clay left as well...but its worth a buy in the future

Thanks for the write up Matthew

Undecided whether to use it with a lubricant like `Optimum No Rinse` or just with soapy water.

What do you think?

If you suggest soapy water, I must confess that both the products that I have do not make much suds, so do you have one to suggest that does?

Many thanks

Mike.

Soapy water Mike..the slicker the better

Sorry to be a pain, Chris, but what do you mean by `slicker`?

Regards

Mike.

Heavy use of the car shampoo to make it slicker or slippier

So, a cheaper shampoo but lots of it...

I'll do that when the weather improves a little.

Many Thanks, Chris.

You can even use Fairy liquid...It will help to degrade the existing products on the paintwork

The problem with cheaper Shampoo's are alot of them are filled with foamers (for lots of suds) polymers etc to give you that waxed look or rinse agents.

But lube up for an extra slippy time.
