The new baby...

Featured Replies

Mornin all, new here and just got myself an Occy VRS TDi. Only had it a couple of days, but absolute love it so far- a massive improvement on my old heap!

It has the Columbus fitted and the advert on AT said it had a 6 disc changer aswell, however I cannot find it anywhere. A little search on here told me it should be located in the left hand side of the boot but I can't find a removable panel... Is there anywhere else that it could be hidden??? I am starting to think that it hasn't got one after all, as usually when a Columbus is fitted people don't bother with the changer because of the HDD.

Are there any other little features that I need to know about??? Are they all fitted with auto-wipers and if so how do these work??? How do the cooled compartments work - do they use fuel like the air-con does???Things like this I haven't got a clue about as this is a massive upgrade from my *ahem* '99 Almera haha.

Cheers guys!

If its the same as the bolero then the changer is integrated. You just load each of the discs through the front loader when requested by the unit.

No, if Columbus has a changer it will be in the boot. SD cards work well in the Columbus and it could have the iPod interface installed (MDI) would be in the GloveBox if it has.

Checkout the ICE section loads of info on the Columbus and worth updating it if it has older software installed.

Update sounds good... Do you have to download the update to a laptop and connect the laptop to the Columbus to install, or can you install it directly onto the unit???

The only iPod connection I have found is in the ash tray underneath the climate controls.... What is an MDI??? It also has a Parrot Bluetooth fitted so I'm just getting my head around that at the moment!!!

I was hoping the seats were heated but there are no seat buttons on the climate dials.

I tried looking through the users manual last night... Christ that is heavy goin!!!

My guess would be that the Columbus is a retrofit. Might originally have had a Bolero so no external CD changer.

Otherwise the CD changer would be behind the left hand wheel arch in the boot.

You can update the firmware by going onto a website, downloading it onto a CD/DVD and putting that into the CD drive. It takes about an hour to complete, plenty of info in the ICE section. You don't say how old the car is as there was an upgrade in about 2008 when the climatronic, jumbo box (armrest between the front seats)  and rear electric windows were made standard on the vRS.

The auto wipers work by using a sensor glued to the windscreen just in front of the rear view mirror, if you put the wipers onto intermittent then the auto takes over. If you have them you may have auto lights too, no guarantee though,  have a look on the light switch and you will see another symbol like a tunnel entrance, making 4 positions in total, that means you have the availability of coming home/leaving home lights. These can be set in the maxidot display if you have it, otherwise a friendly member with VCDS is the best bet.

The glovebox and jumbo box/armrest between front seats can be cooled using the aircon, they just have ducting running to them from the dashboard, you will see the little openings in them if you look for them. There will also be a 3.5mm jack for plugging an MP3 player or the like into stereo in the armrest.

On the pre-facelift cars the seat heaters are controlled by dials set into the climatronic panel, I believe you can get a retrofit kit for these.

Cheers Ian, all that's very useful.

It's a 2010 - I think the Columbus has been updated at some point as it recognises 7 digit postcodes, and from what I've read on here it would only recognise 5-digit if it hadn't been updated???

Figured out the auto-wipers last night having a mess around with my lad - he was kept quiet with the Disney Cars DVD on the Columbus... Think he loves the car more than me.

Haven't looked to see if I've got auto lights - I'm pretty sure they are Xenons though.

Haven't got a clue if I have a maxi-dot display- what is iit, what does it do and how do I know if I have it???
