Alternator Altercations

Featured Replies

This is getting silly!

The alternator on my Fabia finally gave up the ghost the other day - GREAT  ! In discust, I've hidden the shamed vehicle away in one of my lock-ups and am using my '73 VW Camper for commuting (much more reliable but only half the mpg  ). Anyway, my search for a replacement alternator has led me down a long and winding path of emails, phone calls and visits to motor factors.

You'd be amazed at the huge variation in prices I've been quoted, but for economy I'm going for a warrentied 2nd hand unit (

Please PM me your vehcile details.

Having a quick look there only seems to be two options for the ATD 1.9 diesel engine.

Bosch and Hitachi which can both have the same part number - 038 903 018b or 038 903 119T

Thanks lummox, you're a star! Why couldn't my dealer tell me that? Anyway, does that mean an alternator with either of those part nos. would fit OK? And/or do I just need to establish the manufacturer of my current unit?

As they share the same part numbers I guess they are interchangeable.

Al they would need to do is look in alternators versions and look to see what is fitted to the ATD.

Nigel

I have PM'd you about a part but that would require a chassis number to identify.

Ross - I think all of the numbers in the screen shot are deleted, that might be why it's a chassis number job. I can't get it to show the price it just gives 'Deleted'.

Needs the chassis putting in F1 active then.

Right, just removed the old alternator in an attempt to establish the p/n. This has only confused the issue futher. The only number I can find is on the plastic diode plate cover: 028 903 028E - it's a Bosch unit. I suspect that this may in fact already be a replacement alternator as there is some enscribed text on the body suggesting that it's come from a breaker's or has been somewhere for repair ('sw 6105

Well that part number is on the ETOS attatchment I posted up about 5 posts up from this one, all you need to do is look :)

DOH!! I was looking at the part nos on the right of the window - I'd printed the page off, highlighted the 'relevant' numbers and everything! :o

Finally I have the info I need, thanks for your help!

All part of the service ;)
