replacing springs, bushes, drop links and tie rod

Featured Replies

should i be getting all dealer replacement parts for these or would euro car parts or GSF or ebay be a option?

spoke to guy in vw and he said the R32 rear bushes front wishbones are same as audi TT instead of standard. 23 euro each as against 16 for standard so was going to opt for them.

would this be a diy job? ive tackled a few bits before but nothing major

thanks in advance

oh also thought hand brake is sticking on some. have to really yank it up to get it to hold and sometimes when pulling off after a decent stop.it jerks off and dull thuddy sound from rear wheels? sound like handbrake nackered??

Springs are dealer only. You will not get correct springs for a vRS anywhere else. There are many generic types that state they are suitable for fitment on vRS, but all becomes clear when you actually fit them and all of a sudden you have a 5 foot gap in the wheelarches.

Any ball joint you should also stick with the OEM supplier, which in this case is Lemforder. All of the aftermarket ones I have tried are lousy in comparison. Even those that are supposedly heavy duty (Meyle drop links for example - which are crap).

Pressing out the bushes can be a complete pain in the arse unless you have decent tools, or are very adaptable. Poly bushes are a nice easy option to press back in, compared to the standard style bushes which can be a pain, but getting them out is the worst part.

Sounds like your rear calipers might not be in the best of states...

thanks for the info. will have a look at the calipers. would the TT or r32 bushes be easier to press in also?

As far as I am aware, they all have an outer shield that is metallic, so they will be much the same as standard bushes to press in.

Defo Dealer only for springs.

Drop links , bushes and tie rods either Main dealer ,TPS or Euro car parts but making sure euro car parts supply  Lemforder parts only (as these are OEM parts used by dealers anyway) but cheaper from euro car parts and they give good discount.

For rear bush in front wishbone yes replace the vrs voided bush with solid bush from either Audi TT,Seat LCR or Golf R32 as they are all the same.

You could do it yourself but you need to be prepared for a PITA job. the std bushes need pressing out or you can drill the rubber section and then use a saw to cut through the plastic outer ring. I have done it loads of times and do not find it that bad now. Getting in a solid bush is even more of a PITA and these have no give in them at all. You either need a press or a good vice and a set of over sized sockets and under sized socket to act as a ram to press the bush into the wishbone.

There is a few guide out there. Here is my guide on removing rear beam bush which will be the same kind of job

The front wishbone bush is the same and removal and install is the same process

The drop links on the VRS are the exact same as Audi TT,Seat LCR or Golf R32 so just quote the 2002 R32 and you will be good to go.

The tie rod must be a VRS one as the other versions are different due to the different cast wishbone used

hope this helps

thanks Mark

will see if i can save a few quid on ECP and defo get the spring from dealer. the guy i spoke to in skoda parts said he had recently used the TT bush and the vrs fabia on the rear axel as you did. his on a mk4 gti golf and was well happy with results so wil do likewise i think.

still in 2 minds about diy or garage. was quoted 150 euro for labour for the lot so thought that was reasonable. have to put her threw NCT,irish MOT equivalent asap so might go with garage for times sake on this one although love doing\learning bits myself. im sure there will be more to try my hand at soon

as always cheers buddy. always a big help
