Choking turbo...help

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I've been having another problem and it's been there for a while now, just recently started to get really quite wound up by it (as I don't usually have that much of a heavy foot! *cough cough*)

Here's the problem.... I can drive normally and it's fine, but as soon as i put the foot down a bit (usually in 3rd or 4th) and once the turbo comes in, it'll start choking a bit, sometimes with a loud bang noise, then the surge comes in... then sometimes after i have a wee blast of driving quickish, then drive normal again, but then when i put the foot down again, there is no boost whatsoever, almost like as if there's no turbo there at all! just a 1.8 20V engine!

Help???

Have you checked it for any fault codes?

no fault codes coming up for the turbo at all... only fault coming up at the moment is a lamda sensor in the exhaust, only came up the other night.

Try changing that then ....

I've ordered one so should be here soon, living on an island so takes twice as long to reach haha!

Seems to be contagious this- me and luckyvrs are having a similar issue and both trying to get to the bottom of it

Lambda sensor is critical on a turbo petrol...

Cat lambda not so important,, but first lambda very important.!!

I'm sure my issue is the maf sensor to be honest.. everything else nearly, is new

The fault that came up for me was P0036 - H02S Heater Control Circuit bank 1 sensor 2? Any ideas?

It would also explain why the turbo doesn't put out when it feels like it, as when i had the fault cleared, the EML came back on after a wee while, so hope that helps :)
