fabia I rear wheel bearing replacement

Featured Replies

hello,

I've nearly clocked 140k on my 2001 fabia tdi and o/s wheel bearing needs replacing. I'd like to change it myself and started looking for any info online. I consider buying this puller

wap.ebay.co.uk/Pages/ViewItem.aspx?nborh=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fbhp%2Fwheel-bearing-puller&emvAD=420x598&nbpr=1&nbcol=1%7Cunknown&ebayref=/itm/Heavy-Duty-3-PC-Hub-Bearing-Puller-Car-Van-Wheel-Gear-pulleys-3-4-6-Set-T0391-/300949061536

Will it do the job?

or is it better to take the whole thing apart, take it to a garage and ask them to pull out the old bearing and push in new one using the press?

can I use the puller to push in the new bearing?

regards

Simon

I had the same thing need replacing on my fabia comfort 1.4 litre, w reg (150,000 on mine).

I got the garage/mechanic I use to fix it and I only got charged £50 or £60 labour which was well worth it, for a zero stress solution, (and not having to buy the tools).

Can't remember on the Fabia but golf and a3 etc is pretty much one bolt and the bearing comes as a hub.

I've looked on eurocarparts and they do a bearing kit for £60, I'm guessing its a complete hub unit looking at it, my car needs the same, just not sure which side. I'm on a similar mileage too

The kit includes a new nut also, they are not handed they fit either side.

I always try to avoid garages if I can. It seems to me that in this case I will have to use one. A friend of mine works in a hgv garage and says if I could bring the axle stud with the bearing he would do it on the press in 5 mins. Has anyone tried to remove the axle stud? I read somewhere on this forum that someone took the whole thing to a garage and they pressed in new bearing for a few quid. I will try to find this post.
