Remapping a Yeti

Featured Replies

I posted in the Insurance sub-forum trying to find out the impact of getting a remap or tuning box covered by your insurance company. As there are a few people here who have, or have had, a tweaked Yeti I'd appreciate it if you could add your experience to the thread:

I know more people than just Yeti drivers do remaps, but the age demographic on here is probably closer to my own (!) and I'd like to know how much extra it adds, and whether you went remap or tuning box.

In my experience many (not all) insurance companies have a set fee or percentage loading for any modifications up to a certain sensible level before it needs specialist underwriting.

Say 15% price increase for any power gains of 25% or less.

If it's a tuning box or remap doesn't matter.

Is your Yeti on your Admiral multicar policy? They said they didn't cover remaps at all, and tuning boxes only up to 25%. My most likely option is a Shark remap at 205PS (20% increase) but I couldn't get much sense out of them on the phone.

Good job I've just left my Admiral multicar policy then; as soon as I find the Yeti I want, it'll be visiting Shark :)

I wonder why they covered my remapped GT-R then?

I was allowed to tune up to 25% extra of original horsepower.

Started with 530, exhaust and remap declared to 600.

On my Admiral Multi-Car policy. :giggle:

It sounds like they misunderstood what I was talking about. I didn't think insurers would draw a distinction between a tuning box and a remap, just on the final power increase. I'll try again and see if I can get an answer in writing.
