S reg Escort GTI

Featured Replies

I've got a S reg Escort Gti for sale,it's got 142,000 on the clock,it's rust free, was dry stored for 8yrs!

Has 6 months mot and 2 months tax. It's had a few wear and tear parts over the last 8-12 months including a full exhaust,4 toyo T1r's,front discs and pads, new starter motor, new clutch, new battery, new wishbones with bushes and track rod ends!

The car is very reliable, only ever let me down twice, once was at Combe last April when I got a puncture and it wouldn't start. And 3 weeks ago the exhaust fell off while I was on the A420!

The cambelt is due which is why it's so cheap, these are £800-1300 on autotrader!

Asking £500 to sell quickly as I have just bought a Fabia vrs!

Any takers please PM me

Car can be seen in Swindon!

Cheers

Mark

Only twice it's let me down in 2 years and 45k miles, puncture, starter motor and an exhaust! I'm just being up front and honest about it,besides it was a few briskodians who helped me bump start it at combe! Lol

All just wear and tear on a 16 year old car mate!

I'd have no worries taking this car to Aberdeen tomorrow,it's that decent.

In any case it's had so many parts recently there's nothing else to go wrong!

It's used only 1/2 a litre of oil in that time too!

I'll send Lloyd some pictures to pop up so you can all see it!

Lloyyyyyyyd???????

No, you misunderstood me. I was just having a giggle at the way you said it got a puncture then it wouldn't start.

What size engine did they put in the Gti then? Performance figures?

Oh,my bad,duh! ;-)

It's a 1.8 16v with 115ps

It's a Burgandy 5 door!

0-60=dunno to be fair, never tried it,got the octavia for that! ;-)

I've just pootled around in it to work and stuff. Bit of a workhorse,if I'm honest it's done me proud since I've had it!

Got a Fabia diesel now,so it's got to go! Lol

Here you go:  122 mph maximum speed, 0-60 mph in 9.2 seconds.

They had the bodykit from the discontinued RS2000 (side skirts, rear spats and rear spoiler) along with 15" alloy wheels that were in the same style (but smaller) as the Escort RS Cosworth's 16" alloys.  Not sure whether ABS was standard or an option.  Inside they had half-leather trim, white instrument dials and a CD player.  Air conditioning and heated front screen (brilliant feature) were optional extras.

They're not a bad little car, not the fastest thing in the world but surprisingly nice to drive when they're set up properly (with new or decent wishbones, they went through them quite frequently).  Cost something silly like about sixteen grand back in the day.

That all sounds about right!

Thanks mate! ;-)

I've done the wishbones, easy job to swap them over with bushes already in them!

I've spent about £600 on it keeping it going recently as it was my only car on the road!

It really has got years left in it! ;-)

Hows the rust coming along? Are you on FEC?

Theres a couple of guys on there that would probably have it off you and around about your area as well.

No rust on the bodywork at all!

There's a tiny bit coming out underneath, but according to the last MOT tester it won't be an issue for a couple of years yet!

I've got a lady coming to view when I get back from Amsterdam on Friday!

£400 need this car to sell! ;-(

Might stick it on eBay in a few days!

By the description I reckon that it might go for more than that if you put it on an auction with a decent listing and decent photos.  Don't waste pictures by photographing the tax disc or the mileometer like some people do; instead get some interior photos as well as the exterior ones).

Make sure you've got relevant keywords in your listing title like Ford Escort 1.8 16v GTi mk5 for example.  You'd be amazed at how many people just put the model name and nothing else in their listing title for example!

Good luck!

Mark do you have any pictures you could post or pm me?

Thanks

Ben

Fairly sure this would sell for more than 400 on eBay!

I remember helping you bump start it at Combe! GLWTS, nice motor :)

It would go for about £600-700 on eBay I reckon!

I just need it out of my way to be fair!

I've got a two car drive and I'm gonna have to cancel the insurance on it tmrw to swap the policy over to the Fabia! ;-(

£350 Ono on the autotrader now guys!

This it?  http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201403272856341/

If so, looks tidy, just needs the wheel centre covers and front towing eye cover.  Not that people can complain at that price - it's the third cheapest Escort of any kind on Autotrader.  Amusing (and refreshing) to see one with the original style pea shooter exhaust!

Yea that's the one mate!

I've got three of the wheel nut covers,I took them off because one made a bid for freedom after a trip to the tyre fitters for a new tyre!

I took the others off to stop them from getting lost as well! Lol

It's a good car,I've had about 20-25 calls in 10 days but nobody's come to see it yet? I'm mystified!

Might be worth advertising it on the Ford forums, it's the sort of thing that they might be interested in.  Could be worth trying to get hold of the missing wheelnut cover and front towing eye cover then retake the pictures.  It's the sort of thing that wouldn't put me off, but it might do others.

SOLD! ;-)

Nice one and just in time too - I was starting to justify reasons for buying it myself!
