Hello I'm Fred from Oz

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm Fred from OZ in Victoria, recently purchased a 2010 Octavia VRS for the little Lady, purchased at auction from Pickles. Didn't get to see the car prior to purchase, just took a punt and bought at a very good price. Car has 100k on the clock and runs extremely well, so well in fact that my wife said she has scared herself when putting the foot down!

Really happy with car, only one disappointment, it makes a humming/wooing sound at around 80 to 100kph seems to come from the rear and causes the drivers window to vibrate a little. Doesn't happen all the time, however it can get quite bad. I have done some research and been told it could be the tires as they wear down or a wheel bearing.

If it was a bearing I would expect the noise 100 percent of the time and I have tested the bearing theory by going round corners at speed, no difference in sound. Has anyone experienced this, or can anyone suggest what it may be and how to fix it? My own suspicions are that maybe the wheel arches may be contributing to the noise due to their design and the close tolerance to the tyre, or the tires as they wear down as the longer we have the car, the worse the noise gets.

We would appreciate any help.

Hope you all have a good day (or night),

Regards,

Fred

I'm pretty sure there was an issue with wind noise from around the rear doors or windows on the mk2 that could be cured with some adjustment. I'd expect someone with a better memory than me will be along soon. Anyway, enjoy the car. We seem to be getting quite a few new members from the other side of the planet recently. Can we have some of your weather as well please?

Hello Fred  :hi:

Can't help with the noise apart from suggesting keeping it below 80 or above 100

(I'm sure I've read the same as Dr Z)
