Golf Mk5 1.4 Sport

Featured Replies

Yep, you read that right, VW are soon to release a 1.4 Sport model of the Golf. Pretty poor you may think... but this has a 1.4-litre turbocharged + supercharged engine, producing 170 bhp!

With this, the GTI, the new R32 and the forthcoming GTD PD170, the Golf range IMO is among one of the more interesting in its sector :)

that could be interesting :)

can always tune the supercharger(change pulley) and remap, power figures could go higher

engine might sound quite odd

depends if this will be a real car and price tag of course ;)

At that displacement I'd have thought there's be virtually no torque at all! Why not just go with a 1.8T with the right map for those power figures.

Seems a strange decision that

Will watch the PD170 development with interest though, see what other models that makes it into ;):D

Surely if it can develop 170 bhp, it must have a reasonable amount of torque too :)

the supercharger should help as it will help it pull straight away then the turbo will kick in :)

Wouldn't the supercharger need a certain amount of HP to run it, which would mean having to sacrifice some power that would normally, minus the supercharger, be sent to the wheels?

yeah would be interesting to see how it will work in real life.

Nissan already did it 20 years ago with the Nissan March Super Turbo, a 900 cc car that was turbocharged and supercharged and developed something like 110 bhp IIRC. Seriously quick for a Micra!
