EPC/Brake lights

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

Like the topic says, my EPC light came on while driving and now the rear brakelights don't work.

I've checked the car with a scanner and it shows no error codes.

I've checked the fuses, but they are all fine.

I've replaced the brake light sensor,.

I've inspected the interior of the hatch and trunk to look for moisture or bad connections, but nothing.

And, for some strange reason:

My upper brakelight was not working before this happened, but now it has six diodes constantly lit, no matter what I do.

I have run out of ideas on what to check/do, and I was hoping that maybe one of you geniuses had any good suggestions..?

Have you checked your brake light bulbs in the light clusters?, make sure that they're the correct bulbs, it'll be embossed on the bulb holder what type of bulb goes where.

Thank you so much for your suggestion!

It seems like the root of the problem was the brake light sensor on the pedal after all, I just hadn't adjusted it properly.

That both bulbs were busted as well didn't help, so inspecting the rear bulbs as suggested lead me to the solution.

So for anyone else who might happen to have the same problem as me, the solution was to replace the brake light sensor.

Remeber to pull the pin out before installing, letting the brake press it back in to the proper resting position.

I also had to replace bulbs after replacing the sensor.

And yes, while we're at it; I can't seem to find a place to buy a replacement LED-strip to replace the upper brakelight.

Anyone have any suggestions or part number? Thanks.

Perfect. Thanks!

I was just about to come on and say brake light switch.  It's a well known issue and I've seen it throw up the EPC light multiple times as well.

But I see you have sussed it out above.
