Sad - but curious

Featured Replies

I am 67, just got a new Fabia VRS estate and not had as much fun since I don't know when!  LOVE the looks I get from Audi/BMW/Golf GTI drivers  when I leave them standing at the lights - and only done 2000 miles with it from new !

However - I am a sad pensioner - and now that daylight has broken over the North of England I am having a better look at my 'Rocket'.  Above the two main dials on the dashboard there is a 'fancy' rounded bit of fascia which goes towards the windscreen - obviously some designer's idea - BUT almost at the end of the 'fancy bit' - near the windscreen - is a small, rectangular un-patterned insert.  Does this serve any purpose?  What is it?

Like I said - sad, old, having fun.....just like to know what 'bits' are there for.  This forum, and its members, have been so heplpful with other stuff so far I am sure someone knows the answer !  Sorry - off to bed now !

Blimey

Had mine 2 year and never even noticed it before

Maybe so techs can get access to internals without removing the dash?

Try prizing it off and see what's under

That last bits a joke btw!

Something to do with the climate control I think

I actually just noticed it this afternoon, before reading this topic. And thought exactly the same: What the hell is it?

I would hazard a guess that under the small rectangular panel, is screw that secures the larger panel, which can then be removed to give access to the instrument cluster, maybe to change LED's. I tried removing the panel on mine, but because of the rake of the windscreen, its not easy to get at!

I agree with your comments regarding the fun element of the car. Being of a similar age, to you, I can cofirm the looks on the faces of drivers of "performance" cars, when they are left standing by an old dodderer in a SKODA.

IMO this car must be the best "bang per buck" on the planet.

RIP FABIA vRS

It's the sunlight penetration photosensor. It adjusts the climate control depending on how much sunlight there is.

Mines not got climate though and its still there. Maybe its just fitted just incase?

I am surprised no one has noticed it though haha. The first time i saw reflection of the dash in the windscreen i wondered about it.

The sun intensity sensor sits under this bit which is an infra-red transparent window.

You can test it if yourself if you have climate control fitted - see Cimatronic Unit Secrets

and select function 2 or 3 and wave your hand over it on a sunny day.

They are a lot of fun the Fabia vRS aren't they?! Very understated and 'sheep in wolfs clothing' which I like.

Let's not kid ourselves that it is a traffic light Grand Prix weapon tho. You maybe able to spring a surprise on other hot-hatch drivers if they are not suspecting a race or really trying but the likes of a golf GTI and other 'performance cars' will wipe the floor with you and hand you a performance lesson if they actually go for it I'm afraid.

Off the line full bore starts aren't the little Fabias forte as traction in that situation is relatively poor. Our 120d will quite easily embarrass our vRS away from the lights time and again and I wouldn't even begin to consider that a performance car (although it is usefully rapid).

Don't get me wrong thro -I love Fabia VRS's (I'm in my third) and they are a lot of fun and incredible value. Shame ther e is allegedly no mk3 vRS on the horizon!

Apologies for the off topic lol.

Personally I think OAP's should not be allowed to drive performance variants of any make. They should show more maturity, drive base models and give the rest of the money to their kids. Nothing worse or dangerous than an OAP who thinks he's a rally / f1 driver. ;)

xman, have you tried this? Whats the Econ button on the fabia? VERY interested!

Personally I think all oap vrs drivers should remove all the vrs badges off the car

Wind the unsuspecting public up even more. :)

Yes I have, and it works.......but I think I followed the instructions below, rotating the temp control to get to the various functions

hold down the "air recirculation button" on your climate control and press the button with the "up" arrow on it at the same time. Then to change between functions use the "temp +" and temp -" buttons. To view the value for a function, for example speed in km/h, use the "temp +" and "temp - " buttons until 17 is displayed in the screen and then press the "air recirculation" button. To exit these features, simply just press the "auto" button on the cilmate control unit!

Another sad old man...... :giggle:

I've done precisely that (see pic). It works a real treat.

I didn't buy the VRS but got the 1.6 diesel Monty. Lovely.

Same age as you...now go get a bike.

Show those young whipper  snappers how to ride.

Aprilia Tuono anyone?

Moving on now looking for an Adventure bike.

I've done precisely that (see pic). It works a real treat.

Mate what's going on with those bumper stickers!? Does the right hand one really say "you've just been Skoda'd"? Haha

Yep. It sure does. (see pics) Only put them on for a joke to wind up my mate who has a brand new Fiesta ST. I can see him off at the lights no problem, but he catches me up on the windy lanes. Reckon mine's faster on the straight though.

yeah! Why should you have all the fun?  So as not to hijack the OP's thread, I will start a new one entitled "Should OAP's be allowed to drive FABIA vRS", and set out my reasons there.

On the whole mine has been great. It is a quick car once you get used to it. Keeps up with mapped Octavia vRS TDI's ok. 2.0T's though are another matter. Whatever I get next will be quicker
