How To: Fit Poly Bush Top Mounts

Featured Replies

Well fitted the Poly bush top mounts.

Folks who know the Ploy bush top mount realise that the std VRS top mount cup will sit high. Although this does not cause a real issue it could cause strut to drop over bumps and also don't look nice.

Anyway more on that bit lower down i did just drive car and kept the VRS top plates and 3 days of running and i have to say no issue.

The drive with poly bushes is a little better for me because i benefit from the extra shock travel from raising the coilovers to compensate for the 10mm reduced height of the poly bush and something i really needed for my low stance.

No squeaking so far (although did grease them well)

I like the overall feel of the front end with the poly bushes in and i think completes my set up well of complete poly bushed front end and LCR subframe set up with upper /lower braces.

I managed to lower coilover down in inner wing with enough gap to remove old Top mount and bearing and refit poly top mount bearing with strut still attached to hub(made life easy) and did not even need spring compressors(shows how low mine is..lol)

Although i have been driving ok like it bugged me to see the std top plate sitting proud(anyone who knows me knows how fussy i am..lol)

Here is the std top plate sitting high

So today I picked up some VW polo top plates

In actual fact what i also discovered is 2 issues with the polo top mount cup plate

1. It is smaller diameter to the Skoda OEM one. Which could lead to the cup being pulled through turret and some examples seen on over forums

2. It is actually too smaller depth to reach the inner nut. And thus folks could actually attempt to tighten the cup down too much and this will cause bending and probably the cause of item 1 happening.

So what I ended up doing is the following and seen on a few other forums

Cut STD skoda plate to act as a larger washer to turrent

Fit the original Skoda rubber seal over both plates

Then I packed out the gap between strut top mount and bracket with a few washers to build up the height to make the polo bracket touch the washers and sit on turret at the same point as best as can. This allowed for a uniformed tightening and made sure polo bracket could not bend downwards and also ensure the bearing works as normal

Hi dude as a alternative to Poly bush top mounts you could use both the Polo Top hat plus the Polo top mount as that would give you 10mm drop as well.

P/N's

two x   6N0412319 = £9.10

two x   6N0412331A = £15.54

Example of these verses the VRS ones
