A few octavia vrs questions.

Featured Replies

Hi guys, after initially planning on spending 10k on an Octy vrs tdi i have been looking around and think I'm going to have to up my limit to about 11k to get a facelift one with low milage.

I went to look at a couple at the weekend and wondered if people could answer a few questions i have?

1. On idle should i feel a particularly juddery tick over? more noticeable on open that the other.

2. is paint peel a common problem on the lower bumper in front of the rad? viewed when bonnet is open.

3. is seat wear common the the black fabric section? one i went to view was particularly furry and looked a mess, it had 13k on but suspect it must of done a lot of short trips so I walked away.

Have to say i love the way they drive and I'm looking forward to finding one, but think it may be a lengthy process.

I can answer these for you

1. Definately not

2. If any bumper paint is peeling it has had a bad respray

3. Black fabric? if you are talking about the side supports these should be leather, if they are fabric the it is either NOT a vRS or it has had a seat change. as the main seat base & back are a grey material with the vRS logo stitched into all the seats - front & rear, if it is this that has bobbled the its is more like 130k + miles.

Hi Steve

the black fabric i meant was the centre of the seat, where your bum goes, it was really fuzzy and worn, the car raised too many questions really.

leather bolsters were also pretty worn, really didn't look like a 13k motor unless he had got in and out every mile.

1. No

2. Probably, common issue on Skoda bumpers

3. Again common if you have velcro on your trousers or go around with a wallet in your back pocket.

My son insists on wearing a brand of Jean with studs on the back pockets, he ruins car seats in a matter of a couple of thousand miles. I keep a towel in the boot he has to sit on if he comes out with me

1 - No, they idle really smoothly. OK, they're not as refined as the BMW 6 pot but they are still smooth.

2 - Not really. If the bonnet isn't aligned properly it could catch on the top of the bumper. The very lower part will pick up a few stone chips but shouldn't be peeling.

3 - Seat wear on a low mileage car is a prime giveaway that it has spent all it's life in town. It's probably been doing very short trips for the last 3 years or so. The clutch and gearbox will have been used more. It's not a major issue but on a 13,000 mile car I'd rather walk away and but something that has done 40,000 of motorway driving. Another option is that it has been clocked. MOT certificates should be the clue here unless its only had one!!!

1 - Can't comment got a petrol

2 - No. My car is enarly 7yr old with 80k on the clock and there is no paint peeling anywhere. Plenty of stone chips but no peeling.

3 - Again at 80k the netting seat base fabric on mine is worn but not excessviely. You can tell it's not new but no bobbling. The Leather in the drivers side does show some wear, again not excessive.

Paint peeling is a common issue with 09, 10, 11 year cars. I've had mine resprayed 3times and last year replaced as the paint wouldn't sit on the plastic correctly. The new bumper is totally fine now. All done under warranty.

A search on octavia and superb sections will show you a few issues with paint peeling.
