Should there be an oil coating in the induction pipework of a 2.0 PD

Featured Replies

Hi Gents

Upon replacing the Charge boost sensor (G31), i had to remove all the lower section of ducting as the screws fixing the sensor in where totally rusted, to the point i couldn't even tell what tool was required.

When splitting the ducting a small amount of oil dribbled from the pipes. Is this normal or do i have a problem.

Thanks for a brilliant forum.

Yes perfectly normal, you can follow it backwards to the engine breather, often mistaken for blown turbo oil seals but without any white/blue exhaust smoke.

Thank you for that. Will clean out and refit. Will be nice to have turbo back up and running. What's the best way of stopping water ingress on the sensor plug.

Cleaning out the small amount of oil is pointless as it's continually being replaced by oil vapour from the engine breather as part of the emissions control, unless you have a catch can modification to your breather, called the elephant mod I believe.

I am unfamiliar with the sensor plug but would have thought a liberal dose of WD-40 or similar would help.

If it's somewhere prone to direct splashes maybe you could fit a small guard of sorts.

Silicon grease - liberal application thereof.

Oh and the elephant mod (via a catch can) was one of the first things I did to my car.
