Air Conditioning use and not so good smell

Featured Replies

This weekend I used my air con for the first time however after a few minutes of being on, there was a sort of burning clutch smell!
(I'm afraid to say it wasn't my brother who smelt :giggle:)

Has anyone ever had this before and do you know what it could be?

Best Regards,
Jamie

I believe that it can be quite common and usually due to a lack of use.

For people with climate control I can't understand why it gets turned off as it's as if you don't trust the car to deliver the temperature that you've told it you want!

Hopefully someone will be along shortly telling you how to clean out the smell though.

It is bacteria. Never turn it off.A dealer can do an anti bacterial clean for around 35 quid

Can get the Coma air clean from Halfords for about a tenner, does a pretty good job too. Just set off the can in the car with aircon on recirc and full blast for about 10mins, and a nice fresh smell afterwards :-)

Turning the air-con off and running on "ECON" mode has completely resolved my windows misting up after starting the car.
