Fuel filter swap disaster!

Featured Replies

Well, as the topic suggested this was a complete disaster. I went about changing the fuel filter, sounded easy enough; jack up the car, locate fuel filter, undo jubilee clip/cable tie from filter, and push in fuel hose retaining clip and remove fuel hose, except because I couldn't see the retaining clip, I decided to twist it around for a look and it snapped!!

So I went and got this bondloc glue (especially for plastic/rubber) and I was relived that it has actually stuck the two parts together. I don't know how long the connection will last, and I'm sure it will go at some stage.

I've been searching online for the part and no joy. Any ideas where I could get the part? or anyone have a secondhand  part that they would like to sell?

Cheers

wich one did you brake?the one to the engine or to the tank?/

Best way, find a scrap yard and replace the fuel line, would not last glued, and is dangerous

Cheers. It's the outlet hose clip connector. I'm not comfortable driving the car the way it is, but twas a quick fix to get home.

Could I get this clip off of other car makes/models?

you cannot replace just the clip, the entire line is needed. This is pressed and heated,is a special procedure

So the entire long line from the filter to the engine must be replaced,is not that hard,it's mainly exposed under the body

Yup you need to replace the whole fuel pipe, the clip is very delicate

Your right, it needs to be done properly. I will trace the hose from the filter to the engine bay, hopefully I can change the hose myself

Fuel pressure 3 bar.... thats if you dont have LCR pump like me.

No glue will stand up to that!!

Ah well, live and learn as they say lol

Any rough estimates on the price of a fuel line?

skoda sells all 3 lines as a set....about 70 pounds

€89+vat, seems reasonable at this stage, still might try a scrapper!

Is it handy to change the fuel lines? There's a couple of clips that hold the fuel line to the underside of the car, but having a look from the engine bay, the line can be disconnected from a clip, but can the fuel line be pulled straight through?

A part from the scrap yard would be cheapper and allmost the same.

My friend let a mechanic  replace the line...is better for you and your wallet,is much bigger job than a fuel filter

Quick question on the removal of the damaged fuel line.

I've attached a couple of photos. Looking at photo1, a plan view of the fuel line connection from the engine bay. The fuel line is circled in red. If I remove the the horseshoe clip, and then prize the fuel line from the holder, can i withdraw the fuel line from the car? Obviously the fuel line would be unclipped from the under body of the car as well.

The reason i ask is because if you look at photo2, there is a protective cover over the fuel line. Are the lines clipped together under the cover?

Cheers
