Electric window went bang and dropped

Featured Replies

Cleaning the car today, put the windows down and back up to wipe the smear's off and the passenger side made a Big Bang and sounded like the glass had smashed, wouldn't go up or down anymore but the motor was still working, just in time for my trip down to London this evening :( anyone have any ideas? I've had the door card off and the glass hasn't smashed but it looks as if the end on one of the metal cables has snapped off

Cheers dude, got m dads windscreen friend coming to look anyways I'll see what he says !

Regulator needed :)

Not a bad job, bit fiddley, comes with the full door pannel!

Had the same happen on mine a while ago, on the way to alton towers. All I had in the car to secure it was a roll of sellotape :D

I bought a repair kit from ebay, think it was 11 or 12 quid. Very fiddly to fit though, small hands and the patience of a saint required.

I have small hands but no patience at all so I won't bother trying myself  looking like a new regulator jobby I think !

Happened to mine too. Not a bad job if your patient which I wasn't so I got my Dad to do it.

In the mean time duck tape works wonders for thickening the glass to jam it in the window seal ;)

Does the ease of the job not depend on whether the window cassette is bolted in or pop-rivets in?

If so, then obviously bolts are the easiest, otherwise you need to drill out he old rivets, and need a rivet gun to effect the replacement?

Mine were riveted, we replaced them with bigger rivets and made the seal tighter than it was standard, ain't no water getting in through there :)

Found a full assembly in eBay for £30 with 2 year warranty just going to buy that instead of £11 for the repair kit
