Cleaning up some second hand alloys

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a set of pyxis alloys I picked on ebay and I suspect they had never been off and cleaned. Hopefully there is a pic in this post....

What is the best thing to get rid of the brake dust....elbow grease?

Thanks

The cheapest wheel cleaner you can find. Some of that and a quick wipe will get that off no problem

I would start with a strong mix of all purpose cleaner. You can get Daisy from supermarkets for about 20p

Dilute 1:1 with water in any sprayer you can get your hands on, apply Leave to dwell and work with an old (clean) paint brush.

That will show you what is really embedded on there and what step to take next.

If they have never been off you will need a strong cleaner or fall out remover to rid them of the baked on dust. Something like britemax iron max which is a cleaner and fall out remover together. Hope this helps.

As Above, Prob use Bilberry then Iron x

Good luck!

Thanks.

Iron out will sort them in one hit.

I go hardcore and get some wonder wheels and then multiple hits with iron-x

Looking at the state of them...I would too

Brake dust looks baked on..so Wonder wheels with a brush, rinse...Apply IronX or an equivalent other product like Bilt Hamber....Rinse

Finish with some tar remover...wipe and a light spray of APC to remove anything left.....rise and dry....then apply some sealer...Job done

Pastyboy has done a couple of nice home refurbs if you search them.

You could also drop him a PM

Thanks both.

I can afford the time as the evenings get lighter but not the cost of a pro job. However I hope that some 20 yes as a scale modeller will help.

I will Pm Pasty boy.
