2 Week review of my new (and First) vRS

Featured Replies

I've been pretty quiet on there over the past few weeks, mainly due to collecting my first vRS on the 1st of March and also coincidentally putting in a 2 week holiday from work :) - I think we all know where this is going!

I've found the car to be near perfect since collecting it, even the MPG which is no where near what is stated but mine appears to be OK especially when you take into account the Scottish roads. First tank I managed to get around 420 miles out of it, however as you can imagine it was not always driven like an OAP, the second tank I averaged around 48MPG, my current tank is averaging 57 MPG which is great! especially when you take into account that this is the tank of fuel I used on my wee break down the West coast of Scotland, which is not conducive to steady MPG, if it keeps improving I wont be complaining at all.

Comfort wise I've found the car to be exceptionally well laid out for the driver, the seat are the most comfortable I've sat in, which exception to the Recaro's in my Sapphire Cosworth. Sound inside the cabin is very well controlled, however I also I have the Canton pack which is meant to add some level of sound deadening so perhaps others may be different.

Driving: Although this is a big car, when driving it feel a lot smaller, and around city's I've found the car to be great, it's helped a lot by the direct steering and its variable ratios. Performance wise I can't find fault, it certainly doesn't drive like a typical diesel, and I actually like the sound generator :)

Mods...

Upgraded the tax disc holder.

Added new number plate surrounds, I like them, however I would be interested to hear your thoughts too.

Future upgrades....I may end up getting it re-mapped once my mate cracks the ECU (his main business is re-mapping cars and lorries), failing that I may opt for a DTUK box, however at the moment I am struggling to think that the car needs it, that may chance once I've been out in a upgraded car.

The only concern I have is I think one of the Canton speakers may have a fault and would be interested to here is anyone else has the same issue.....When playing some good rock i.e. Biffy Clyro or Foo Fighters I noticed that the rear off-side tweeter (the top speaker on the passenger door) appears to be cutting in and out on the symbols, it doesn't seem to do this when listening to some lighter music i.e. City and Color, I have the Canton surround turned up quite a bit, however I wouldn't have thought this should present an issue...

Now for some pics, the first 2 were taken on the day of collection, the rest where taken today after its first cleaning session.

Looks good mate. We just picked up or estate :) really nice and definately an upgrade from the Mk2

At least you'll get a few months out of it :)

I do like those number plate surrounds, only a small thing but it does add to it, are the bolts behind the bumpers easy to get to ?

Tax disk holder ... leaving my stock one in as come next year we won't need them ;)

Nice, almost the same as mine.

Do you have the columbus sat nav system or standard unit?

Only ask I have have the Balero and Canton and the sound has been superb, no issues although I have turned the sub woofer setting to full to ensure all the base goes to the sub woofer.

If you have the columbus, I think you can set surround sound if you have canton fitted and it might be this option that's playing up with the sound on the track you're trying to play and if so have you tried the track in normal non surround mode? Just a thought mind as I thought it could only play surround on certain formats and with columbus fitted,....

1st October this year actually :)

Does that count for existing ones too then ? I assumed you would still have to display until you renewed.

Didn't need to get to the bolts, you just slip the plate into the surround and screw it back on :)

I've the standard head unit, and use the Canton surround option, I'll have a fiddle around and see, other than it it's a wee call to the dealer :(

This would defo suit a black roof ;)

Looking good, glad to see another hatch. Still to see another on the road though!
