spring and damper upgrade (not coilovers)

Featured Replies

Has anyone not gone for coilovers and gone with a upgraded spring damper setup? If so what u got, how do u rate it, how much u pay and any pics that show there drops?

Im still unsure weather to opt for coilovers or upgraded dampers and springs.

Is that 30mm lower than vrs standard ride height?

No from standard none VRS height.

What drop did you have in mind?

You'll struggle to get low on the VRS model without coilovers.

Yh looks like ill have to go on coilovers then lol. Was after having 0 arch gap.

with 0 arch gap you will struggle to get any coilovers to give a decent rebound with comfort without going for good brand like KW, Weitec H&R etc. Stay away from Pro Sport and any cheaper brands if going that low as your shock rebound will be non existent and you will get a crashy ride.

You would also have no chance getting none coilovers for that amount of drop.

Will the ride be much better on the brands suggested tho? Them brands are big price tags. I know u get what u pay for but are they really £400+ better? I wanted spring and damper for a more driveable comfort but they just dont go low enough for my liking. Im after something I can fast road/ track with but also do holiday trips to Cornwall lol. Do they exist?

Yes it will be mate if you are going to go low and especially if you want to use as a track car. Cheaper coilovers are ok but they are preset with damping that is a average expected road condition and lowering height. but when you start lowering them beyond a certian point the internal shock can't handle the rebound presures needed to stop the shock crashing and you loose a lot of shock absorbtion. The result is back breaking ride.

I am talking about lowering as you stated and not just a little.

I had Weitecs on mine at first and even they struggled with my lowering which is dam close  to what you are after. In the end I went for KW V2's  as i also like to track the car from time to time.

You really do get what you pay for if you are wanting the car lowered to a point you need and to also track / race it.

There is defo no cheap coilover out there that can offer you a comfort to go to Cornwall and back and then use on a race track unless you pay for that . This is exactly what i have mine for. I raise mine and set the damping rebound when car is loaded for holidays and then back down it goes and damping rebound stiffened up for track and spirited road use.

Also the price seems to just get silly after cheap ones to quite expensive

My money would be one KW V3' fully adjustable platform and damping

Weitec version of above(these are cheaper)

H&R fully adjustable

Think FK do a top range fully adjustable (much cheaper than above but not sure of quality)

Spax version of fully adjustable platform and damping

I looked at spax. Can get the rsx for under £600. They are gas filled and other brands around that seem to still be fluid. Iv had spax springs in the past and really liked them. No idea what the ride will be like on thier coilovers. Im on a bit of a budget as im moving house 2moz 4 the first time lol. I think £600 would be my very max! Kw doesn't come into it lol. I suppose ill have to just compromise on ride quality. As long as I can wind them up and there not back breaking I should be fine.

Sound a good idea Spax RSX have good reviews although not many on here have them.

KW do come up for sale on ebay and add's as I got mine second hand and refurbed them (if you don't mind that sort of thing)

The rsx are awesome, ran them on my rs1800 fiesta. Don't know why nobody uses them on the octys tho?

The only reason I went weitec on my mk1 was because I got them dirt cheap.
