Many thanks guys that's what I wanted to know

Allways get the answers from Briskoda

Seat using AA for their equivalent cover. The code reader that they used did not have the MQB platform specific diagnostics so could only read engine fault codes. Had to take it to dealer to diagnose. Do the RAC have the correct tools for the Octy?

RAC until 31st may then AA.The RAC have proper diagnostic tools for all vehicles.

Then the RAC needs to teach their techs how to use the tools.

Recently called out the RAC twice because the car (mark 2 Octavia) would not start. The RAC arrived promptly both times, interrogated the ECU but both times said there were no fault codes recorded. However they managed to start the car using the magic spray in the air inlet trick, and then told me (1) ignition key was not syncing with the ECU and to use the spare key and (2) EGR valve was clogged and needed changing.

I sensed they were just guessing. When I got it to the main dealer after the second no start incident, the tech immediately reported a load of stored fault codes indicating a camshaft sensor problem. They changed the sensor and its been as good as gold since.

Seriously unimpressed with the RAC.
