Which polish?

Featured Replies

Right, I need some new polish. Was going to buy from EuroCarParts as get trade discount.

Do I go for the Autoglym Super Resin Polish, Meguiars Step 2 (do I need the step 1 paint cleaner first?), or Meguiars Ultimate Polish?

Thanks

What do you intend to use the polish for and how? Hand, machine?

By hand for the time being until I find a cheapish machine. I've got a tub of Dodo Juice Banana Armour that I would like to apply after.

Personally I would utilise the megs quick clay kit first (if you haven't done before) and then using the SRP by hand is OK.  You won't get paint correction with it to any real degree but it will bring up some shine. :)

I have got a Meguiars clay bar kit already

Stick with waxes and sealants, unless you really need to polish.

I can't remember the last time I used a polish on my cars.

I can't remember the last time I didn't use a polish.  I always find after a year / 18 months, the swirls start to creep back again. :D

Super resin by hand, topped with the wax you have will be a nice combo :)

I just need to give the motor a proper going over with tar/glue remover and a good polish. I waxed the bonnet on Sunday but there was still a few swirls in the paint.

I think I'm correct in saying that wax will not sort out swirls, polishes that have fillers in them will (to a certain extent), that's where AGSRP comes in, you then need to put wax or a sealant over the top of the polished finish.

This should give you some lasting protection which you can top up with something like the Sonax Detailer after you wash it in the future.

When the surface stops beading you can start again. :)

Really? I haven't any..after 4 years!

To get back to the question......get some Gtechnik P1... Great polish to use by hand or machine

AGSRP is only a cleaner/ sealer polish...with lots of fillers

+1 and easy to get right

Day to day, this is all I've ever needed to keep the CooperSport gleaming.  SRP isn't a good filler polish so it isn't going to do much for serious swirling, but if you just want to deepen the shine of the paint a little once every now and then it's ideal.  I've never tried the megs because I've simply never needed to.
