Boot lights staying on when tailgate is closed.

Featured Replies

Morning all, I think I found the issue of my battery going flat.

The interior lights for the boot stay partially on when the tailgate is closed. They're fully bright when it's open, but when it's closed, they simply dim rather than switch off.

I've removed the bulbs for now to hopefully stop the battery from dying, does anyone know what this could be?

You haven't got LED bulbs in?

The switch for the boot light is in the locking mechanism for the tailgate.  Before taking it apart I check whether to lock engages correctly and give it a spray with WD40.

To check- put the wife in the boot and close the tailgate.  To test properly, go and have a cup of coffee so she can ensure the light stays off.  Overnight would provide a better test!

They are LED mate.

Turns out that they aren't the cause of the battery dying. LEDs don't use much power anyway.

I think the battery is buggered. Going to have to buy a new one tonight :(

I have the opposite problem to you as my light only comes on 10% of the time and generally that's when its daylight outside and I don't need it.

LEDs stay on as they run on so little power, whatever energy is residing in the system keeps them lit basically... Or that's how I understand it!

Boot light switch is a micro-switch jobbie on the top of the boot lock cassette. Mine works when it feels like it. Have considered replacing it with a tilt switch but that would stll require surgery to the boot area. At the moment I CBA and have a handy Q5 torch to hand.

Previously, I've had it working more reliably by repeatedly actuating the boot lock with a large screwdriver, then flipping the release tab.

If you're more determined...

^ My answer to the annoying intermittent boot light switch - disconnect it and wire in my own switch. Now I know it's either definitely on or off...
