Water in the boot

Featured Replies

I've just discovered a little pond in my boot where the spare wheel is. When I lifted the floor on the left was condensation but where the spare wheel was full of water, it took about 7 jugs to get rid of it.

There is no water else where in the car.

Any advice ?

Is the Carpet wet?

When did you last look in there, is the water all recent, or been gathering for a year?

If you did not spill something in the boot look for where the H20 gets in.

(Or a bottle burst on a Freezing night.)

Seal around the Hatch would be the best bet, check drainage..

Check the Washer Fluid, does it go down quick, is the pipe squirting in the rear?

Dry it all,

put in newspaper, climb in the back and get someone with a highish pressure hose to hose around,

see if any water gets in.

When the car is wet,

open the hatch, how much water enters and wets the newspaper.

all the best with it.

Get it back to the dealers and try to garage it until then

Thanks for the replies, nothing else is wet the carpets are fine. I'm surprised the rear seats aren't wet but I lifted the rear seats and it's all dry. The last time I checked the wheel was in November when I put the winter tyres on.

What does the age of the car got to do with it ?

Well i could not see a Dealer being interested so the age was a reply to post #3

Don't worry I won't take it to DM Keith. They'll charge me a fortune !!

It's been pouring down today so I checked the boot before I left work and all was fine, again when I got home again no water.

I got my car washed a few weeks ago so I'm thinking now that's where the waters is from. Will used a pressure washer at the weekend.

You must be in an Area where the cold weather is not on the way this weekend.

I chased a leak in a Grand Punto for a long time after taking about a gallon of water out

of the wheel well.

Car in heated garage to dry, then out everytime it rained.

In the end i decided the Owner must have been carrying Water at some point,

Bottles Froze & Burst, then thaw came and water leaked.

all the best with it.

And was it just water or a little soapy? That might be a clue.

The water was clear, the guys at the car wash place use clear water, then shampoo, and finally a blast with clear water.

Have a look at the rear light cluster seal

Have a look at the rear light cluster seal

How do I fix it ?

Could be its come undone so retighten or you've got a crack in it ? , have you checked the seals around the hatch ? It could be the brake light unit also

While waiting for help with the hose pipe outside the car, I removed both light clusters. Under both lights and above the plastic seals were filled with mud (left was wet mud and the right had dry mud) in the seals.

I replaced the clusters , got in the car and my dad used the jet wash to spray around lights, under the wheels arches and on the boot lid and no water entered the boot, not a drop.

So I probably think when my car went for its wash the boot was open a little. I'm going to get some sealent for those seals and see how it goes.

Thanks for the help

You cleaned the mud away that might have been the issue ? If the carpet wash dry it couldn't have come in through the door , I bet the water wash coming in through the rear cluster lenses and running down the bodywork to the lowest point ! Don't use any sealant that's what the seals are for just lubricate them and should be fine , also there might be a bung at the bottom of the wheel sump if it fills up again just pop it out and let the water out that way
