Suspension strut size and springs

Featured Replies

Hi

I am going to replace my front shocks and springs, having recently had both front springs loose their top coil.

Can anyone advise whether all 2.0 tdi's have the same size shocks and springs. My springs have what looks like Pink Pink White White colour code, which I can't find anywhere.

Mine is a DSG, will that make any difference to shock size and spring rate to other 2.0 tdi's?

Thanks in advance

Chris

I have had a quick look on Vagcat and they list a couple of springs with 2 pairs of colours. violet and pink (1J0411105BK), Violet and yellow (1J0411105BH), or green and blue (1J0411105C). could yours be either the first two, maybe faded?

I guess either of the violet ones could be the correct springs. Then you look at pattern replacements and they only list one for all 2.0 TDi's, so does it matter?

Have never gone down the route of trying to replace suspension myself, have never had to. Have replaced plenty of drop links etc but not shocks and/or springs.

I know of a pair of complete front struts going for a reasonable price off of a 2.0 TDi. They haven't been on long, around 6 months, but he wants to lower it so is selling them. I am just wondering if they'll be a straight bolt-on fit? I don't want to buy them and find they're the wrong width strut or wrong spring rate but also new parts are going to set me back £250 at least and I'll have to invest in spring compressors etc to do the job. I don't have that sort of money at the moment, especially as the cam belt and dsg oil need replacing too.

Yes all 2.0tdi will have 55mm struts

Thanks. I'll go ahead and buy the second hand ones.
