Scratches in Vinyl wrap

Featured Replies

Hello

Any ideas about removing small scratches/swirls from black wrap on roof and pillars? They aren't that bad but visible in bright sunlight.

P.S. I always hand wash with a wash mitt, never a sponge so think they may have come from 1st owner or the garage recycling dirty cleaning equipment.

Do you have access to a dual action machine polisher? Or a friendly Detailer?

These should come out with a finishing polish on a finishing pad

Do you have a roof that is Wrapped.

Do you mean the Pillars between the front and rear doors? (B Pillar)

The Pillars are the Windscreen are easily replaceable and sometimes get done when new screens are fitted?

(A pillars)

It's all vinyl wrapped, roof, A & B pillars etc

I tried light polishing but no change just a nice smooth finish.

EDIT: and unfortunately don't know anyone who can detail or even valet. I don't know many people who keep their car clean!

Just being nosey,

Is it wrapped in Black Magic?

Was the roof just a painted to match with the car, then it got a Top Half Wrap?

What colour of car?

  • Author

Yes I think it's the same colour as the car paintwork underneath which is Rallye green.

Is black magic what it is called? Gloss black?

Black Magic is like Metallic,

rather than just Solid Gloss Black.

The Wraps i have seen in Quality Metallic Black material do not really show scratches.

Maybe call in and see someone locally that does Wraps and see what they think.

I don't know that Vinyl wrap can be polished TBH

Reapply it?

Thanks George. Will stop by a few places and see.

I think you're right @ChrisRs, maybe Skoda apply cheap vinyl, prone to scratching more easily.

Skoda do not Wrap the Roofs, and not the A Pillars or B Pillars.

I would suspect an Owner or Dealership had it done.

The B Pillars do have a Foil on them, but not like the same as Wrap.

Sorry poor picture as usual,

but this is standard B Pillar Foils, which can be bought as Parts for doing Body Repairs etc.

That is interesting George as there seem to be quite a few with vinyl on. I've seen quite a few standard fabia's with white roofs and different coloured bodywork.

So this could be either a dealer extra or something the 1st owner had done? Interesting to know if so...

I do like it as it does compliment the green bodywork nicely.

Are the black B pillars standard on all fabia's or all vRS's? They appear to be vinyl/foil faced as you say but guess this is a factory job?

Skoda paints the roofs, you can have white and black options,

even Silver was on offer, but i have not seen any with a contrasting silver roof, but that is Factory Options.

Wrapped roofs are likely to be After Market.

Maybe Dealers that did Lookaliky Stickered s2000/vRS had a Wrapped white roof as well as copy decals applied.

Both the A and B pillars are standard. The wrap on my B pillar is currently in the process of removing its self.

A pillars are not wrapped on a vRS as standard.

Ignore my comments on machine polishing if this really is wrap.

I thought you were describing the black gloss plastic A and B pillars

I tried some Super Resin Polish on it this morning. It seems to have done a good job and certainly improved the appearance of scratches. Not really sure it is suitable but it helped.

Photo attached, this was before polishing though. You can see the green roof where the roof and spoiler meet.

My b pillars aren't the same black as yours, are yours matte?

Standard B Pillars are matt on some Fabia, a bit more shine (smooth) on a vRS.

Could you do some pictures of your Pillars and roof?

'hammer 32' says his black roof is wrapped,

& 'VRS-Powered' says his white roof is wrapped on here.

EDIT, i see the pic now post #16

Looks like Aftermarket, not as from the factory.

(the green paint is nice quality, and your car looks very neat.)

A pillars are not wrapped on a vRS as standard.

No, they're painted black clip on covers I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) but black as standard none the less.

and to the other comment, yes, they are matt, as much as I now wish they were gloss because it would have been easier to buy paint.

You can buy the replacement Foils from Skoda Parts for the B Pillar to replace the peeling ones.

I have painted B Pillars with Satin Black before.

Do them in Gloss if you wanted.

Use Plasti-kote or the likes if you want.

Yes the A Pillar Covers are Clipped on,

and easy to replace, and some Windsreen Replacement places do

replace them when doing a winndscreen, if they are careless.

Shame the guy at the dealers had no idea how much and couldn't care less either. Just said to go get some touch up paint or something. He had that "it's 3 years and 2 weeks old, it's not my problem" attitude. Didn't even ask if I wanted it pricing up.

If you had gone in 2 days before the warranty was up you could have had them do them.

I would write to the Managing Director of the dealership and let them know about this poor service.

Slightly different note but I take it the roofs are wrapped on the Monte's? as I picked up a stone chip and it's taken away the wrap to reveal a red roof underneath fecking cheap skates, I was under the impression that the roof was painted (there I go again assuming things lol) I'm bit ****ed off if I'm honest
