First 1000 miles in my FL

Featured Replies

I picked up the car on 4th March and have been very impressed with it. It has replaced my trusty Fabia Estate 1.6 TDi. The following points may be of interest to anyone thinking of making a similar move. The Yeti and Fabia estate have very similar footprints.

The 110PS diesel Elegance (2WD) is smooth and refined with very little tyre noise from the fitted Pirellis. Seats are comfortable on long journeys. No rattles heard yet.

Fuel economy has been good for a new engine – for the two brim to brim fills done so far the consumption is 49.5 mpg with the Maxidot showing 50.3 mpg.

I checked the speedometer against a sat nav and it was over-reading by about 5%.

The Alacantara option is worthwhile considering – it looks smart and feels good.

The DAB radio works well. The reception is better than FM. I’ve noticed that it changes seamlessly from DAB to FM and back again as needed. The Amundsen is good and the rear view camera is worth considering – the image is remarkably clear and helpful.

The Xenon headlights are a vast improvement and makes night driving much more relaxing. Makes the Elegance choice a must-have for this alone IMO.

The car is very nimble and cornering is very assured. The small turning circle is a pleasant surprise.

Don’t like the rain sensing wipers – can’t handle drizzle.

The Annapurna alloys are hard to clean - choose the Origamis!

Only thing I miss from the Fabia is the well  shaped boot. The boot in the Yeti with spare wheel is a bit compromised for height and depth compared to the Fabia estate (which also had spare wheel).

Overall the Yeti is an excellent car and has surpassed my expectations .

The matterhorn alloys are very easy to clean!

All good & valid points!  I also agree about the alcantara - I am very pleased I spec'd this instead of the leather.

The only thing I think I wish I'd added to my Yeti was the front parking sensors - I don't really miss the rear camera but the front sensors would be useful as it's proving difficult to judge exactly where the front of the car is - though I've only done 2000 miles in mine so far...

Strange you say auto wipers don't do drizzle, you do know that you can adjust via the switch on top of the stalk. Never had any problems with mine. Also annupurnas are easy to clean if you get a Kent microfibre wheel brush from EBay

I added the front sensors to my 2nd yeti because I could never judge the distance on the old one. They don't seem cheap at £300 but could save an expensive repair bill.

Quite agree with OP about the Yeti boot (as I've commented before).  We also replaced a (53-reg) Fabia Estate.  It's plan area that matters more than litres;  and sliding the rear seats forward doesn't leave a level floor (with spare wheel).  If the Yeti is a mix of Fabia and Octavia parts under the skin, pity they don't do a Yeti XL (cf. SEAT Altea XL) with Octavia rear end.

You can get Parksafe front parking sensors from avrmobiles.co.uk - cheaper than OE kit, £180 incl. fitted for you at home.

Have you had these fitted? I wonder how they integrate with the ECU?

I use a ez wheel brush on my Annapurna alloys cleans them no problems

1000 miles now up on TIBET III as well. All going splendidly.

The FL is definitely quieter than my previous two CR170s as far as general noise goes (ie not road noise). Reduced noise during acceleration and cruise. I can't believe it's down to L&K carpets!

Origamis easy to clean.

Reversing camera works very well - in conjunction with the mirrors (and reversing lights...) of course.

KESSY is more than just a gimmick, again works well.

Still trying to suss out if the Xenons do what the Octy III ones do as far as illuminating the offside kerb when at town speed - I think it does.

Only thing I don't like is not having the headlights 'on' symbol on the instruments illuminated. Don't know why (I don't rely on automatics to decide when they should be on), just liked it being there!

1000 miles just turned on ours too. Really pleased with it so far, a few minor mods with a friends VCDS and Columbus fitted since.

Mudflaps don't seem all that good, help, but still a lot df dirt thrown up the sides and back. Still gives me an excuse to wash and admire!! Very comfortable to drive but can't seem to get my right arm to rest on anything comfortable. Enjoying the lights, best that I have had yet but agree it would be nice to have a "on" symbol in dash.

Only real downside, SWMBO thinks it's time she had a drive....umhhh. Maybe another thousand! :D

When set to 'Auto' the side light image on the light switch illuminates when the lights come on.

Yup the indicator light is on the switch. Not the easiest to see without taking your eyes off the road though...

There is a mention of this >O< in the book but your not supposed to read it!

No idea how I got to know this :giggle:

The light switch has always lit up as it does now from what I remember. Just preferred the indicator on the tacho to reminded the ageing brain cells that one had indeed already switched them on.

I don't leave them on 'auto' as the systems aren't clever enough to suss out poor viz - only low ambient light levels. I do engage 'auto' when I want the lights on (in the dark) so the clever AFS stuff does its thing.

Have you had these fitted? I wonder how they integrate with the ECU?

Sorry not to have been back sooner.  Yes - the guy took about half an hour.  Nowhere near ECU - just connected to reversing light live.  Only odd thing is it gives a bleep a few seconds after start-up even if you don't select reverse - just lets you know it's awake.  Bleeper (mounted on top of back RH trim panel) has loud-quiet volume adjustment too.  All works nicely.

Just specifying front sensors are a bit daft as for just a tiny bit more you can have Park Assist which gives you the sensors AND parks the car for you. A feature I never tire of using or showing to friends!  :giggle:

I always have my lights set to Auto and keep a check on them with the green symbol in the speedometer...  sad that they have now dropped that and you ONLY get the extra symbol coming on in the switch (which I have as well).

I would love the reversing camera - I'd never had a need for it when I just towed a lightweight trailer (that you can move around at will), but with a caravan it is best you park as close to that hitch as possible - where a camera is perfect! I read the other day that the new Honda CR-V's rearview camera has THREE view settings: normal, wide angle and then a 90 degree down view (for towbars).  Guess the Yeti's has only one view?

And rkenny: as stated above you adjust the toggle on top of the right hand stalk to set the Auto wipers' sensitivity!!! Mine are always on Auto and they always work perfectly only now and then needing a slight tweak via the toggle.
